First i want to clarify that i'm no sifu,
Both PSP and NDSL is good, but what is most important thing u wanna do (aka. ur first priority)? I dont hv both (only PSP, hehe), but for me all I want is there in my beloved PSP. I know this is a bias statement, but thats all i can say.
BTW, isn't this question been asked for about 1,442,556 times? tongue.gif

Again, it's personal preference smile.gif

Watching movies on PSP is a good blast for personal viewing, nice wide-screen LCD, clear nak mampus.

DS by default can't watch movies/mp3/mp4, but can through means of Play-Yan(official DS media player), or flashcarts. And besides, the screen it kinda small for movie enjoyment doh.gif

Games, both handhelds got games, which do you prefer? A nice study on gaming websites should help you(IGN, Gamespot, 1UP), and you'll have all the new games info you need, and reviews. Do comparisons for both handhelds, and see which interests you more.

Hmm.. if you're priorities are for movie, then mp3s, then games, then a PSP might be an ideal choice for you.

I see PSP's price bouncing about RM600-1200 (because I don't follow).. Depending on which firmware you wanna get.. Firmwarm selection only should be affected unless you're looking for a certain criteria in the PSP's functionalities.. aka.. Homebrew.

NDSL is cheaper than PSP, but the PSP's price is slowly dropping and will probably match the DSes' price, but if you want media playback for the NDS you'll have to spend around RM100-200 extra, which sums up to the price of the PSP.

You'll have to weight these in yourselves, in the media stance:

PSP wins, as it's made for such purposes. Widescreen + Clarity = Win for movies
DS with Play-Yan has been reviewed to give good emulation for video and audio playback, it even supports MP4. Only gripe is, the smaller 2 1/2 inch screen compared to the PSP 3"+ widescreen, which definitely bests the DS.

Because the Nintendo DS on it's own doesn't support media playback, no movies, no mp3s, just games.. In other wordings, when you purchase your DS, it cannot play music/video out of the box.

Because the Nintendo DS was made 'just for' gaming.

So that extra RM100-200 would be used to buy either a flashcart (R4, SuperCard), or the official DS media player called, "Play-Yan", which supports SD and Mini-SD depending on which version you buy.

Simply put, a flashcart device for DS 'changes' or rather, 'boots' up a different Operating System(like Windows and Mac) rather than the regular DS firmware. And in this 'OS', you can boot up homebrew and other applications like a MSN clone, web browser, organizer, and of course, the media player that you wanted.

[Edit] And oh, these devices are just like the game catridge, of which you insert directly into the DS. R4 uses slot1, which is the regular DS slot which is slightly bigger than a SD card, flashcarts like Supercard uses slot2, which is actually the Gameboy Advance slot. Both has it's ups and downs, but I cannot enlighten you in that direction as it's not really my speciality.

If you want to know more about the usage flashcarts/firmware/and homebrew, maybe you could head in the correct forum(Sony Playstation, Nintendo) and ask in their respective threads. The users/forumers that lurk there have a better knowledge on these things smile.gif

I hope you make the right purchase nod.gif

If you wanna just switch on your portables for gaming action in an instant.

Take the NDSL.....pssst but if you wait a little longer Nintendo is readying their wider and larger screen NDSL soon.

If you wanna have a portable gaming machine that can play PSP+ PS One games+ other games + Mp3 + Wma (Songs) + MP4 (Movies) + GPS + Infra red controller / player then i suggest you get a PSP.

Not being biased here but both portables have their pros and cons, but i like both

The PSP is rumored to be revised with touchscreen and 8 gig storage. That really is plenty to party hardy with, not to mention the current firmware already lets you watch AVC (h.264) MP4 movies up to 720x480 size. The Chotto Shot is an excellent add-on that captures beautiful widescreen movies up to 480x272 @ 30fps. That's a great little gimmick to share all your personal memories on places such as YouTube.

OTOH Nintendo this year should be cranking out bigger size screens, although I fail to see how they're going to topple Sony if they don't update their 3D hardware. Most NDS games we see in the market are a throwback to Super Nintendo era, being all sprite-driven. Although the touchscreen capability offers a more varied gaming experience, and that is Nintendo's strong point.

If you were to value handhelds based on graphics, sure, PSP wins hands down. Features? Yes, PSP wins too, thanks to its MP3, video playback, and gorgeous screen.

Games? Sorry, this is the crucial area where NDS is clearly superior. Despite most NDSL games being "only" 2D and sprite based, these games are the ones driving the handheld. It's all about the gameplay, not the graphics. Take Gyakuten Saiban 4. It's a game driven by text with normal 2D graphics, and yet it has been a top seller in Japan already since its release. Weird huh?

NDS topple PSP? Sorry, PSP still has some ways to go to topple NDS, not the other way round.

Depends on your preference. If you grew up in the Playstation era, maybe the PSP is a more suitable handheld for you. It has the same basic controls and you'll feel absolutely comfortable.

But if you want something different, go for the NDSL. Two screens, one touchscreen and the mic makes for some totally different gameplay. And there are lots of games to suit you, no matter what genre you like.

der are very few PSP games, i will addict. Around 1 hour to 1 & half max such as ridge racer, burnout & Winning Eleven.

Tos extensive 3D gfx games is really eyesore after a while.

Touch Screen games is more comfortable for longer-hours playing even though the screen is small. I mean the game wif Good looking 2D style. Not tos crappy 3D gfx game.

If u wan Jack of trade it all, mp3 , movie & internet. PSP is the one to go.

Getting bored wif standarised game-style?!
Get some weird style & inconventionalgame, NDSL~ Touch screen game is much relaxing than thumbing game.

DS games are miles better than the psp's, its a fact. The DS already overthrowed the Psp a gazilion years ago, there need not be no comparison, cause the facts are all there. For media, you can simply buy an R4, a great software that allows your DS to run many different softwares, mp3, watch video, search internet etc etc. What are you gonna do with a psp anyway? Its just so freaking big and bulky that you can't take it anywhere, which probably makes it not so portabvle after all. If you want to listen to music or watch videos, the ipod video is a better choice cause you get better sound quality(way better than the crappy sounds of the pee ass pee) and video quality aswell. Its all in your hands, whether you want to make the right choiuce is up to you.

ds and wii....really proves that thoses 1080i/p/wtf are just secondary, the main thing is gameplay. flashy graphics, with turdlike gameplay are just disastrous. personally, i think that most gamers are not ready for the next gen. sure, wii or ds have cartoony graphics..but u cant beat the fun they bring..and the giggles that come with it.damn.pixelated games rulz baby!

So...when does opinion equals FACT? doh.gif
DS outsold PSP = DS win? PSP dead?
Wah, like that, Nintendo died LONG AGO, it 'lost' 2 generation of console wars.

Stop BSing about PSP's size, PSP is only slightly larger than the DSLite, maybe you've never hold or saw a PSP before, here a size comparison

DSLite VS PSP size comparison (I won't hotlink, don't want to steal bandwidth)

Just because you like the DS better doesn't mean it has better games than the PSP.
It depends on personal preferences.
PSP is more like a portable PSone/PS2, many of the franchises from those 2 consoles are coming to the PSP, that is why I bought the PSP, to play console like games on the go.

I bought the DS to play whacky japanese games, can't get enough of them drool.gif

So...when does opinion equals FACT?  doh.gif

DS outsold PSP = DS win? PSP dead?

i not really wan to play game...

pirority is for movie...and mp3....then only games...

but psp is expensive right?

ndsl more cheaper right?

If you not really want to play games, get a dedicated portable media player instead. You get 30/60 gig storage + widescreen + more format capabilities.

I don't really use psp to watch movie. all the 'other' thing already stuffed my memory full and the need to convert my weekly dose of 24 and prison break to mp4 just doesn't cut it.

Just my 0.00002 cent

psp and nds has their own qualities ...

i got both ...

both also has been in my hands for the equal amount of time ...

both has their own unique games ...

psp is more graphic oriented while the nds has more fun factor ...

but its up to u all anyway ...

personal preference counts right ???

but if u got the cash to splash ... get both ... u wont regret it ... biggrin.gif

I love PSP because of its mature look and feel, games quite slow right now, while NDS got Pokemon Diamond, upcoming games for NDS also look promising, Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Final Fantasy IV remake, FF Tactics A2, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, and Dragon Quest IX, so far for PSP, it just got Silent Hill Origins and Final Fantasy I Remake coming......

in my opinion, the psp is more towards single player, and the ds is multiplayer thing. i have a psp. but i've tried the ds. multiplayer in ds is the bomb compared to the psp. the games r simple, but...mad. biggrin.gif

PSP and NDSL got their own pros and cons la..before i bought my psp i did borrow ndsl and psp from my friend to test because i cant decide which one to buy

so below is my opinion after trying both consoles

video capabilities = screen size matters..nds just too small to be a video player, dont go and compare with ipod (not a portable gaming player)

games = NDS wins few street due to its new game which psp just some remake (getting better recently), i admit nds wins here, but depending what kind of player you are

music and sound= both almost the same anyway cant expect much, but if you were using ear phones i can said doesn't really that bad combine with a good branded ear phone

overall size = like Beouwulf said, NDS just slightly smaller but depending on personal preferences, for some please might think of keeping your psp in pouch or bag, and its not heavy..feels almost the same

design = no offense to NDS fanboy...the outside really look sleek..when u open it i just got that disappointing feel for some reason i doesn't like the buttons size and very plain inside. and psp as everyone know..just same like the psp controller with a big screen gives me a familiar feel

so i decided to buy PSP coz NDSL games doesnt suits me, i buy psp to watch video and listen to music more than playing games, familiar feel and most important the OE firmwares (ahem and xmb modding)

btw, currently ds got 1093 titles. that's a lot. i can play till drop. heck watch movie? i have already 32" display at home. music? i have my audiophilia stuff. games? i have ds with 1093 games. damn complete.
