I have decided to go with Ikea for kitchen cabinet. Before I consult Ikea's kitchen specialist on the design, may I ask if anybody here has installed Ikea kitchen. I would like to know if the worktops you have chosen are durable against water. Although not entirely wet, drops of water is bound to be on the worktop as worktop is built into the sink.
The Saljan worktop is laminate while other worktops such as Eckbacken, Karlby, Hammarp and Mollekulla etc. are wood. Is there anybody here who have fixed these worktops? I am interested to know how is the durability when these worktops (laminate or wood) are subject to frequent water drops or moisture, whether there is any deterioration in the material due to water moisture over time.
Which is usually a more durable or practical material between the laminate (Saljan) and wood (Eckbacken, Karlby etc.)?
Experiences from owners who are currently using these Ikea worktops would be appreciated.

QUOTE(ehwee @ Dec 3 2017, 01:37 PM) if you plan to go for wood top, it's advice you use it in dry kitchen only. You will need to take care of it avoiding doing heavy stuff on it and treat the top surface with Behandla wood treatment oil twice or more a year to protect the wood top not advice using wood top for wet kitchen thou. Dry kitchen will also have a sink. Hence, the area around the sink will also be wet most of the time although users can still wipe it dry with a cloth. Just concerned that occasional or frequent contact with water will cause the wood to deteriorate or decay with time even if there is some sort of protection oil applied on the wood surface. It would be good if there are people here who have installed Ikea worktops, either wood or laminate who can share some experience on the durability of it. Better still if the kitchen worktops have been installed and used for more than 5 years.
