Ada kereta pergi naik keretakan. Tak perlu pengangkutan awam.
Tak ada kereta, malas drive naik pengangkutan awam lah. RM120 ok lah
Tak kisah lambat naik bas. Nak cepat dan selesa naik ECRL.

Currently, the expressway network doesn't go all the way to Kelantan.

For that, need to wait for the completion of Central Spine Road (CSR).

Even if the dual carriageway (not talking about expressway) goes all the way to KB, say the Karak highway to Bentong then add the Central Spine Road, then add the Kuala Krai - KB highway, physical distance is still about 500 km.

500 km if all dual carriageway, assume average automobile speed of 90 km/h...still need 5 hours 30 minutes or so by car.

RM120 in 2024 is like RM80 now...so quite reasonable plus got toilet and faster less than 4 hours...

Bus also I think will be RM60 in the future
Airline ticket now RM199 if book 7 day before departure
1 month can get RM159

The shorter the distance, the cost of ticket per kilometer is likely to be higher. As can be seen in the northern EDTP, it can go up to more than 0.40 MYR per kilometer.

This has obvious negative implications. Private vehicles are not going away. Public transport needs to discourage the use of private vehicles. However, with the direct cost of private vehicle at 0.15 to 0.20 MYR per kilometer, public transport cannot produce a desirable impact. At 0.40 MYR per kilometer, it is worse.

If private transport cannot be made much more expensive, there is a need to channel funds to greatly reduce the price of public transport. I would say 0.10 MYR per kilometer is attractive.

It is not right to cite the lack of trains as the excuse for not providing cheaper public transport options. There is no immediate plan to get those trains. So, the only option is to reduce the ticket prices of the current trains.

Imagine Uber and Grab Car that cost more than taxis, because they are available through the Internet, and are "safer". How can that sort of pricing strategy change anything?

The benefits of Uber and Grab Car are apparent, possibly only through the dying taxi industry. I would say the same applies to trains. If the highway operators and stalls at highway rest areas are not seeing a significant reduction in revenue, the benefits of the trains are not clear enough.

Believe me tolls and fuel price can be expensive in 2024 and I don't think gov want to subsidize it anymore. Considering they have invested a lot in PT development better subsidize PT than ever increasing fuel subsidy

Not necessarily.

If the fare really at RM 120, we have to look at other examples...

Bus option is RM 50, but takes 8 hours.

Airline, fare itself can be more than RM 120 one way, if book last minute, but then KLIA 2 is very far from the city.

So, electric train, which takes 4 hours from Gombak to KB at RM 120 is pretty competitive.

But the question is how much is the ridership from KL to Terengganu?

Can RM120 recover the investment spend? Is it politically motivated just for the erection? jeng jeng jeng... biggrin.gif

4 hours from Gombak to KB? For real?

Do these trains have stops or lavatory in it? I don't think anyone can hold no 1 and 2 during these 4 hours travel time or find some time to eat.

The thing is, the current railway network in terms of coverage is essentially unchanged since the British days.

Travelling between east and west coast by rail need to go all the way to Gemas. At least with the ECRL, the route would be more direct, and in terms of travel time, train with new alignment will definitely be much faster than car.

With ECRL, towns like Bentong can be closer economically to the Klang Valley and obviously it's a good thing.
