no such digital SLR at that price.

you don't use 8x optical zoom for DSLR either. smile.gif

set your budget to at least RM 2k for a decent USED unit. 3k if you wish to get NEW unit.

dang
My bad on the 8x optical zoom
What should it be?
'USED' unit for 2k?
If it's 3k for a new set, it would be high freaking end
I just need a simple and easy to use digital SLR biggrin.gif

i think u better go for prosumer than next time when u think u need a higher end then go for DSLR
i think fuji s6500 or 9600 is u can effort is better
i think 28mm wide angle and hot shoe is much better
6500 around 1300 and 9600 around 1700-1800
is around ur budget
9600 give u hotshoe so u can use flash gun next time

no sir, RM 3k - 4k DSLR is still considered beginner category. the semi-pro / pro series would cost nearly a car just for the body alone.

not necessarily so. i've highlighted it some where before but it's tedious for me to retype.

1. not everyone is into lens changing.

2. not everyone is into lugging lens around.

3. not everyone is into spending on lens.

my S7000 on it's own has better zoom than your DSLR kit lens and has better macro / super macro than your DSLR kit lens too. smile.gif

so for you or anyone to say DSLR is better, i'd say you'd better state your reasons. smile.gif

If you are new in photography, its better to start from point & shoot then slowly upgrade to prosumer. Only when you are ready to explore more and willing to spend on lenses then go into DSLR.

Looking at nice photos taken using DSLR might give you an illusion that you can do that too if you have the same camera but usually its not the case if you don't have that kind of experience. Well, this is just my opinion. smile.gif

he also said his PNS camera better than some kit lenses.
ofc he's using that **-200mm (or was it 300 lens, goldfries?)

btw, if u wanna know about cameras, google first la. i mean, u ask qquestinos like how much is dslr, isit RM1000...use film or memory card... aiii...

here let me help
http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/enjoydslr/index.html

i'd apprecciate if u take the effort to read, as i took the effort to find that link.

because i want to get certain thing out of the DSLR which my Fuji S7000 cannot produce. smile.gif

and i'm ok with lens changing, lugging lens around & spending on lens but there were many occasions that i wish i was with my prosumer or P&S. smile.gif

look at the standard DSLR, i want to shoot macro i have to change to macro lens or some other lens that supports macro. i want to zoom, i also have to change to zoom lens. smile.gif

if you're talking about overall wonders of photography results, the DSLR wins hands down on capable users but my post was highlighting on other issues like convenience and cost. smile.gif

his budget is 1k-1.3k and he wants a big zoom range. How can you achieve that with dslr? a nikon D40 with 18-200 will cost you around 4-5k already. Better get a prosumer.

To answer ur question,
the main different between prosumer and dslr camera is, the dslr can change its lenses, but prosumer cannot.
But the differ between prosumer and consumer camera is, the prosumer one hv more manual options (e.g. manual focus, manual apeture etc.) than normal consumer dgicam.

check these cameras out. fuji f31d is not a prosumer. ermmmm.. well... in that case 850IS i also not prosumer...

aiyah... bro... these 5 cameras.. go out try urself first then come back as us.

i can telll you 850IS looks nice, sleek enough, and takes good pictures
f31d (fuji) looks slightly, only slightly bulky but takes BETTER pictures
as for the powershots, i have no idea.
as for the p5000 i also have no idea.

someone said on top, if u cannot see difference btween prosumer and slr, stick with prosumer (coz cheaper). if u a lot of cash (or don't mind forking out more money, go for d40 or 350D.

28mm is VERY useful. Especially for crowded room group portraits, and in the interior of some historical building.

Extra angle of coverage at 28mm is quite significant compared to the usual 35mm. But there will be the tradeoff of extra image distortion, especially at the corners. But correctable somewhat using Photoshop and similar software.

The prosumer camera I'm using before my current DSLR is Konica Minolta Dimage Z5. Some might think this is not a superb camera but it gives me a chance to try out manual settings, long focal length (12x), good quality photos with no purple fringing and best of all, it uses AA batteries which you can buy at any 7-11 stores instead of battery pack. However, with all these its still can't compare to a DSLR for better lens customization, extra manual settings, etc.

the best model of a prosumer camera reviewed by cliff smith at trustedreviews.com
Fuji Finepix s9500
10 perfect scores (i can't believe a review website can give a perfect 10) shocking.gif

http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-came...inePix-S9500/p1

currently have been upgraded to s9600
but will cost around rm1,650 for new

but i think that is the highest end for a prosumer currently.
the optical zoom is like a dslr, manual control zoom. no W or T button

for rm1.3k budget, can go down to Finepix s6500
less powerful, but for u who mind the budget.

i use s5600, hahaha
because at that time budget is my constraint (more than a year ago)

Of course the D200 would be better and more powerfull. Plus it doesn't hurt to have 5fps shooting speed as well. But will you need all these options? Plus spending on the D200 Body would be around RM4.8K sweat.gif . Then you'll have to think about the lens..... Plus you mentioned you are new to the DSLR. The D200 might be a bit overkill or a steep learning curve..... unsure.gif

The package suggested by cityfish is quite good and complete thumbup.gif . Just to quote what Digital Camera Magazine reported about the D200 icon_rolleyes.gif

"This is the next step up from the D70s - although only pros and serious enthusiats will benefit from what it can do and have the expertise to make the mos of its potential. It's fast in a number of respects and image quality is impressive; this is another solid Nikon model at an excellent price." icon_idea.gif

But if you're prepared to spend the $$$ and go all the way, by all means get the D200..... smile.gif

What will be your first len(ses)?
A good DSLR body and a kit lens usually will head for a "divorce" sooner than you'd think.
Budget also for your accessories...

But I was told that the D80 kit would cover all your needs and its known that NIKON gives better Kit lenses than CANON anyday. Esp this D80 which come with the 18-135mm lense.

18-200mm covers from wide angle to zoom. If u dont want to carry many lens type with u this lens will cover mostly all ur needs. Maybe u might want to add one prime lens for potrait shoot or one for macro if u are into this kind of photography.

If i were u, i'll get

1) D80 body - RM3.4k
2) Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 - RM1.3k
3) Nikkor 50mm f1.8 - RM360

Nice and just slightly over RM5k, just forget about tele for current moment.

is the fujifilm finepix S5700 a good dslr ? Im looking for my first dslr, and i found someone selling brand new for RM866. Is that price for real ? Seems too good to be true.

it comes with standard accessories from manufacturer + 1 year warranty from fujifilm

The fujifilm finepix S5700 is not a true DSLR. It is only a superzoom that looks like a DSLR.

that's rather misleading.

the S5700 is not even a DSLR! smile.gif

to be identified as DSLR, it's not about the shape. it's the mechanism.

DSLR can change lens. smile.gif if the camera can't change lens, it's confirm not a DSLR already.

around RM2k, choose between Nikon D40 or Canon 350D.
Personal recommendation would be Canon 350D.

cheapest, if you don't mind used unit, can be below RM 2k.

I bought mine for less than RM 2k, used unit and still working well. After that the additional $$$ was used for various parts.

Hey guys.....why don't you all consider about Olympus E-510??? Its features are better than 400d and d40x, at least the kit lens certainly outperform both's kit lenses. If you buy the twin lens kit package, it's very worthwhile and I am sure that you can cover quite a number of occasions already. Just my two cents..... biggrin.gif

Added on September 30, 2007, 2:54 amafter some readings, i think i better start with prosumer camera. So can a prosumer takes multiple shots like a slr ? I mean, like very2 small lag between shots. Of course cannot beat slr rite ?

Im quite interested on the the panasonic lumix dmc-fz18 coz it has 18x optical zoom. Is it good ?
