I'm planning to go to Hatyai next year, but don't want to drive car.
Planning to take the train from Butterworth.
Any /k had experience riding train to Hatyai from Penang(or basically anywhere)
I want to know how the process goes, and does KTM have train direct to Hatyai? if not, where do we change train and what are the schedule of the Thai Train?
all advice are appreciated.

wanna go one day only, how long sit in bas?

i do consider car/bus, but waifu wanna experience the train, hence the question.

cause wanna go for 1 day only.

last month i took train padang besar -> hatyai -> bangkok

buy ticket from KL central to padang besar, take the morning train, else u hav to spend a nite in padang besar.

once reach padang besar, go through immigration, then buy ticket to hatyai.
there is only a small window of time, u wont hav anytime to lepak or makan2 first.

Malaysian train will stop at Padang Besar
you gotta pass thru immigration booths (Malaysia + Thai), and buy train ticket from Thai coach from Padang Besar to Hatyai
simple

oh, if possible, get your traveling partner to buy the ticket while waiting for immigration clearance

ETS to padang besar > old train to hatyai

but the transit time... if your ETS arrive late you will miss the old train. the train only twice a day: morning and 3.45pm (2.45pm thai time)


if u miss the train, you will have to take the shuttle van. same price but no hindustan feeling like taking the train

Change train or add cabins at hatyai. Boring trip unless going bangkok.

can't really recall, but cheap cheap nia as it's just a short trip from Padang Besar to Hadyai train station, around MYR 10 per pax if not mistaken

Train from Padang Besar to Hatyai Junction. Before 2016 was from Butterworth. ETS from KL to Padang Besar about RM80. Bus previously about RM30 to Butterworth. Train travel cost has gone up.

Previously I took all the way to Bangkok. It will stop at Hatyai to combine with trains from Sungai Golok. Alot has changed since.

ya i tried checking for ets from butterworth to padang besar but no trip.
need to take the train from tasek gelugor only have, at rm26 per person 1 way.
is it really worth it riding ETS?

when I was there, it was a Malaysian public holiday, so the immigration was crowded
it took me and my partner 1+ hour to clear immigration
yet the Thai train still waiting until all travelers in the border station cleared, from what I heard, the Thai train will wait

what time i dunno. the price was 100 baht so cheap

i naik motor from kl to bkh 3hr++ je..

So is the other half has man parts?
