Not being a cheapo or anything, but books can get really expensive in Malaysia. Although there's the option of buying it at Big Bad Wolf or 2nd hand from other readers, the title you're looking for may not always be available.

Just wondering if there are any public libraries or online sites that will allow us to read for free or at least a nominal fee?

All suggestions welcomed!

Will it have fiction/non-fiction books? I've never been and always imagined it will mainly store encyclopedia, national documents etc... Lol

Hey thanks for this! The first site doesn't really have any of the good bestseller titles which I was looking for, but the 2nd one seems promising!

For ebooks:

https://www.ebookhunter.net/
http://www.ebookkake.com/

There are plenty of titles in both of the sites listed, you just need to have applications that are able to open the files (iBook for apple would work well). I usually download them in epub format.

And yes the national library is actually well-stocked, with plenty of non-fiction and fiction going around, though it might be hard to find the latest bestsellers, I practically read the whole Harry Potter series off the national library.

If you live around major cities, like KL or Penang, there are book exchanging events happening once a month.

Yes, you only need to register yourself as a member and can borrow three books (if I'm not mistaken) up to three weeks.

Thanks, this is helpful! Besides national libraries, are there any community or state libraries where one can also find a good selection of books?

I live a bit far from national library, so it's quite troublesome to have to go back and forth to borrow/return books tongue.gif

VK usually publishes e-books for free - sometimes even in complete series/sets too. But it gets taken down very fast due to copyright issues. Worth a try there.
