Do you dry your own wood?

I see market full of "young" tree, not completely dry. Especially those "hard wood" like chengal and balau. will warp or crack shortly after delivery.

Proper kiln dry wood locally tends to be exported.

i use mainly imported wood, oak walnut mahagony etc.. so yea.. its already KD before sold. raw means rough sawn timbers.. not just freshly chop from a tree trunk laugh.gif

Mean after ketam use sand paper and finishing? Finishing do you mean apply oil then follow by another coat which similar like shellac?
Ya.. I saw some price comparison ketam wood its like half of the price from i buy complete finish.. So I not sure the ketam one I need do how much job or worth it or not.. Ketam and sanding is differs rite? Cause I see ketam they use some tools and blade to smooth it instead of sanding

ketam kapit is the right word. thickness planing/thicknesser. it makes the board parallel to each other.
but there is more to it than just putting it into the thicknesser, especially hardwoods. unless you want your glue joints to break apart after a few months or leaving it near the window where the sun hit hardest. basically you gotta learn the properway of milling wood, let it rest, how to get a good glue line rip on the table saw etc, before glueing up boards. do you glue 2 boards at a time or do 6 in one glue up...alot of factors before u see the end result as a proper wooden top.

thats why a lot of hardwood kitchen top suppliers dont do their own processing, probably call a wood flooring factory to prepare the wooden planks and then ask someone to process and glue them up.

anyway long story, many people just buy rubber wood or merbau boards and cut to size. easier that way

Ya, i saw ketam board with 2ft 7ft about 2xx. but i not sure how much i need to make it to finish act as my table top. I was thinking sanding it then apply oil then apply shellac. This might cost me another 100 bucks which cost become 300+.
Now i proceed to buy with 1 seller who told me he can do all with vanishing of my color and charge me 5xx.
Earlier thought of DIY but i don't know the right way to save me 200 bucks haha.

yea if you want high end refined finishing, some times it cost quite abit..

if not can just do like how cheapo 2-3k slab people do. spray thick2 lacquer until its smooth but plastiky. biggrin.gif that service rm100 enough.

i did a stand desk project for a client in penang last year.

Any alternative for this? The seller told he use this above.. But it seems need professional to use.. I bought some clear coat samurai spray.. It make some of the part more smooth but feel not really good in certain rough area.. The whole top I bought its like 90 percent smooth.. Not sure why certain part don't have coat from this seller.. (I able to see under reflection some area no reflection n abit rough)

how come you choose this? this brand is professional factory use, but AC coating requires expert to produce nice result.

nak tanya, red balau ngan nyatoh apa beza, which is better option for indoor room doors?

saw on google red balau is "heavy hardwood" and nyatoh is "light hardwood", price-wise are they the same?

i would say nyatoh is medium hardwood unless they get really low grade light weight nyatoh
indoor rooms? medium weight nyatoh would look nicer (if painted white) then no need compare.
