Fuck. Will be pretty unfair for them as they're not companies, so can't minus out their operating expenses.

What they get net from Uber will be their income. No column for private citizens to deduct their expenses for petrol and maintenance.

Can register as individual with business income. This happened to me when my income from property rentals exceeded my salary and LHDN did it automatically. So I can deduct maintenance fees etc. as business expenses.

They'll need to register with Uber as a sole proprietor and not as a private citizen. Not sure if that's allowed by Uber.

The guy's problem is that he probably didn't keep good records of fuel purchases etc. LHDN will also want you to account for fuel usage for private use and for UBER work purposes. Most people probably won't be able to do that.

Maybe can see the mileage driven for Uber, then claim on that. Include wear and tear into the amount. Something like RM 0.80/km. Include maintenance, tyres, petrol, spare parts etc. I think it's quite reasonable.

And I'm still missing 2 earnings statements from Crab... Some more their statements show fares collected as gross, but incentives earned as net... Can I tell the taxman that I didn't drive for that 2 weeks? Doesn't make sense also, right? Should have statement that says earned zero for those 2 weeks.

The duty is on the driver to keep records of payments and etc.. grab account has the gross earnings of d driver.. on expenses grab drivers need to have legible receipts and proof..of maintenance.. petrol.. etc.. failure of such is considered no proof.. grab drivers cars are less than 5 years mostly are under warranty as such receipt arevthere with further gst by service center ... sure to tally

They will declare as personal income tax bracket like enterprise..

I heard grab hits 10k gross a month.. a year is 120k.. category 24% income tax

My friend wanted to get a loan from bank, so he went to grab and Uber office to get income statement....nope, no such thing, they will not provide you that info. You have only the emails they send or the apps history earnings records.

That's too bad then. You can do it if you're a sdn bhd, though and you can show you're using it for commercial activities.

I guess if they fill in Form B? But do you need to register for a sole proprietorship to do that?

That's a small sum compared to what the drivers pay, and it's considered private travel. Everyone needs to get to work and means is up to you. If your company asks you to go from office to customer's place and back, that's using your transportation to derive income and you can claim back from your company, and your company can deduct it as a cost of doing business.

Grab drivers are driving to derive their income. It's a cost of them doing business. Therefore, it should be deductible.

Same reason why you can deduct rental for your shop lot but not your private residence.

The issue of technicality remains.

1)
Uber and Grab is legalised on 27th July 2017
sos bintang
Meaning Uber and Grab is not legal prior to that.

do one have to pay tax if the income is derived from illegal activity?

2)
The tax is more punishing on part time drivers.
Those who have already a job/salary and drives for part time.
for example, if that driver is /k standard salary in 24% tax bracket
than his Uber income will be
Gross fare - 25% uber fees - 24% income tax - petrol - maintenance - time - telephone call - data charges
= FARK LHDN lor, con9lan7firm rugi job

Because Uber is a business, that also has to file income tax, the payments to the drivers are their expense and IRB will use that info to go chase drivers.

IRB already has the details of payments made to the drivers so now waiting for drivers to respond only. See which ones dare to under declare or don't declare lol

*
If you did not receive the email, just forget about it.
No need to worry about RM100

My guess, LHDN is now throwing shitz on the wall and see which piece sticks.
