Hi all, I will go to Langkawi next month for 4d/3n. Can I buy alcohol from random shops in Langkawi and bring in with me as hand luggage to fly back to KLIA2? Is the quantity is still 1L per person?
I heard some say if I wish to buy from random shop in Langkawi, the alcohol can not be transported as hand luggage and I have to check it in.
I ask so as I heard that we need to buy alcohol from designated shops located in the airport and sea port if we wish to bring them back to Peninsula Malaysia.
Thank you.

Getting Started

You can buy at any of the licensed duty free shops but you need to provide your ic number and they will key it into the system. With one ic you can buy 5 litres per month and enjoy it in the island but you can only bring 1 liter out of Langkawi. That too only 48 hours after arriving in Langkawi.
And you can bring it in your hand carry luggage too. Most of the people who buy alcohol at the airport do so. But if I were you I wouldn't spend my money at the airport duty free shop, as everything there is expensive. You will save more at the shops in Kuah. The duty free shop in Cenang Mall is also quite cheap.

I guess I will just but some whiskey from any random shop in Cenang and carry them as hand luggage on board Airasia flight back to KLIA 2.

If you want to buy Whiskey outside of Airport. make sure you request Seal type Bag provided from Duty free Shop at Kuah / Cenang. Without Seal type bag, You not allow carry on board into aircraft due to liquid limitation. If you don't request, Those duty free only give you normal plastic bag. If you don't buy from duty free, the 1L can go onboard of flight?
