Alright bash me all you like, I'm not a very phone heavy user, so I'm asking as a noon. Is there a reason to buy a phone that priced up to like 2k? I use for what's app and FB and other small app for daily usage at work. Even users that are heavy mobile gamer or like photo shooting, do you really need a phone that priced so high?

I think phones at those price are just for status conscious, during the Sony erricson Era, I see my peers showing off their Walkman phone too.

What a rm 1000 phone can't do compare to a rm3000 phone?

Hardware difference.
Brand name difference.
Function difference.
Photo quality difference.
Your boss, colleague & client not impressed as you put your phone on the table.

Those with high price tag usually comes with:

1) better specs (no lag, and fast),
2) better camera (better photos/videos),
3) long lasting battery,
4) capability of transforming to pc (via dock like Samsung Dex),
5) watch VR and AR content,
6) reaching faster network speed on both wifi and cellular data,
7) better call quality (via Volte or Wifi calling),
8) waterproof,
9) high resale value
and many more.

If you have the money to spend on a better phone, why not?

Hardware difference beside outputting more benchmark score I don't see the actual use case, unlike pc hardware translate to faster process time or fps. I don't deny better hardware makes better user experience like better screen resolution.

Brand name difference just seems like another choice based on status conscious.

Function as in? Fancy curve bezel, 3d emoji? Those are more than gimmicks.

Photo quality I can agree

As you said then phones are really for status conscious. People buy expensive phones to impress people.
Make me think of the apple smug face that quee in the Samsung ad.

1) no deny better spec phone do work faster, but 1k phone shouldn't far off from a 3k phone.
2)i agree
3) not really, they cap at about 3500mah typically
4) this feature does sound legit for a premium price, I agree
5) not quite sure....
6)most now equip with 5ghz receiver and 4g, I more worry bottle neck from network and Telco than from phone
7)i think rm1k phone should have decent call? I guess...
8) not really needed... Unless to niche users that really need it.
9) say I buy a 3k phone I doubt it can resell at half of its price after a year. In that case I would lose more money buying 3k phone than buying a 1k phone, since at most I only losing 1k.

Hahaha, thanks for taking time to reply the points one-by-one!
Anyway as long as the buyer is happy with the phone and can afford the pricing for the additional benefits, then it's to them.
However there DO have people that buy flagship phones for the sake of air muka...
Personally I don't mind buying a flagship phone for the extra features and benefits.

A reason to buy a phone up to 2k? Status conscious? What a rm 1000 phone can't do compare to a rm3000 phone?

Personally i am currently using Oneplus 5, previously using Mi 4, Nexus 5, etc. etc. I have tried phones from all ranges of prices, what i could say, the user experience matters the most.

Oneplus 5 and Nexus 5 so far my most satisfying phone that i had used mainly cause is Google-like experience, no issues of drop calls, wifi, connectivity, gps signals fail etc etc.

This is not a status conscious thingy, this is what fits ur needs or wants (if u wanna say so) An expensive phone mainly i would say the technology you are paying for, dash charge , water resistant, camera, screen, etc.

Good answer to several points. But for point one, yes, a 1k phone performance can differ vastly from a 3k phone.

But then again, some 2k phones are already much better than other 2k phones.

So, answer is yes and no. No, as in, some users will spend more on a phone for things u can do on a cheaper phone, but want a lag free better immersive gaming experience. And yes, some users are brand conscious and rather get a mid tier sucky Samsung phone than a top range Xiaomi or Huawei. The latter which performs just as smooth as any flagships out there.

only for iPhone, it is not just a matter of status or to impress, but it is long lasting and performs well over the years. and great camera. my iPhone is reaching 5 years now, still working fine minus the bloating because of the battery, and i still haven't changed it. Imo iPhone for 2k, 3k or eeven 4k is worth it if u are using it for long term. Samsung also not bad. Nokia in the past also good. not sure with the new smartphones. other brands i think just buy the 1k or below you should get all the functions, but not much style, and abit less powerful camera but still good.

I like new technologies, i like to show off, but my bank saving account doesnt allow me to.

But the other side of me tends to keep things as long as possible, its the same on my phones. It is to show that i take care of things and appreciate what i have.

In conclusion, if got money, yes i will buy flagship phones. Or else, i am also fine with what i have now.

My situation very simple. I unfortunately look at/use my phone more often than anything else so i prefer it to be the best available.

I prioritise looks as well. Although back in the day when we still had keypads on phones, looks were more distinct. *Motorola RAZR*

And also, the one that looks cooler, are not necessarily the most costly out there.

For now, unfortunately, the sexiest phone for me is the s8. I also love the look of honor 9 but I haven't seen it in person, so it might only look good in pictures. But phones like the ip6,7,8, they are top in cost, but looks extremely mediocre. I can see the appeal in ipx for looks, but just not at the very top.

Lol, I agree with you. No idea why the previous poster was saying iPhone is the practical phone while other phone are the status conscious one.

A 600 bucks Nokia, Xiaomi or Huawei can last 3-4 years and they will perform almost like when they are new, extremely mediocre. You might need to lug a powerbank with you tho. iPhone on the other hand, will last 3-4 years as well, but towards the end, they will perform like a 300 bucks Xiaomi. Extremely laggy with terrible battery. Still usable, but only light apps and calls... No new games or new features. Might as well just get a budget android? And with such price point, u can get like 3-4 androids for one iPhone.

All in all iPhone are either for the rich or the less tech savvy. It's good if you can afford or want to afford, but it's hard to agree with iPhone fans saying that iPhone is the bang for buck option.

Exactly. Iphone will stop providing support and update after certain years too. It will force you to update if not you cant open some apps.
