Honestly there's nothing wrong with using Aego M for movies. Most of the time, its impossible to get the loud tyres screeching sound like we heard in cinema. Even when using speaker like MX5021 or 5500, only the disco beat music sounds louder, with everything else a few db lower in loudness.

But honestly sometimes really 'sakit hati' when think of using Aego M or S2000 to view movies like these and let the speaker play the tyre screeching sound like torturing it only.

Put it this way, if you're using Aero M to watch Jurassic Park and Tokyo Drift, the dinosaurs won't sound that fierce and an Evo VII won't sound like one. It lacks the wow factor when it comes to movies, games and hip hop music. Feed it with the right materials, the speakers will start to sing nicely.

Omg....Last time i m earn money plan to buying 1 set 5.1/6.1 HT for PC use (Yamaha 2 bookkshelf, 2 front, 1 centre, 2 rear; with yamaha Amp rxv-450 See it at tumpang.com at Rm1899; later if got money can add 1 yamaha sub somemore).

But due to I am lazy go to big town to testing all HT, it is easy for me to get 1 set 5.1 PC speaker. the Topest pc speaker should belong to Z5500 as I read a lot revies at this forum.

But now, after reading this thread, I scare again and turn to mine previous option which is go for HT is better even is use for PC but its flexible (can add-on) gaming, dvd 9 movie, Listen DTS CD /APE).

So what is your recomendation to me? I ask you bcos I sense that you are expertise in this field tongue.gif it true ya.

Thanks.

Are you talking about the Aego M bulk started by Wallabies? Hahaha. Well, no two speakers have the same charecteristics but I think the most balanced one will be MX5021, it's cheap, can listen to music (though it's not better than Aego-M but still no slouch either), movies (highly recommended) and gaming (excellent) and sometimes, I even connected it to my XBOX 360 when it is plugged to my widescreen LCD in my room. An all rounder I must say but to be frank, if you don't watch action packed movies but watch movies like Music & Lyrics, The Holiday, Dreamgirls, etc ....... Aego M is good enough but for movies like LOTR, Ghost Rider, Casino Royale, etc ......... you might wanna have something like Z-5300 and MX5021. There are other speakers out there but I guess these are among some of the reliable ones without the subwoofer amp overheating issues.

Anyway, good luck in hunting your speakers. It's best to audition them one by one before placing your order. No two persons have the same opinion so you might find Aego M is suitable for movies and your gaming sessions but for me, I worry I might drive it too hard and kabooom ...... it's might be to delicate for my demanding needs. sweat.gif

Waaaaaa .... stop torturing meeee .....
I so wanted to get one Aego M from the bulk order decided not to. Although I'm looking for a musical speaker, I also need it to perform well in movies. I'm waiting to see what Edifier can offer with their new models first before decide. Stop torturing meeeee .....

nice to read ur review...but theres a few things that bother me...take note that i do NOT own either speakers, am NOT a fanboy of any of the brands and have NOT even tried both speakers u mentioned.

1/ u do realize that music will definitely sound better on a good 2.1/2.0 setup than a good 5.1 setup right? mainly because music is mainly recorded in stereo. so comparing a 2.1 with a 5.1 for music is a no brainer. coz ur test material is a stereo.

2/ Chaintech AV710? that thing is only good for stereo man... its 5/7.1 is absolutely horrendous. NO ONE would recommend that card for other than stereo. so ur source is already an issue in terms of 5.1. and no one would actually remommend this card for anything other than music due to its STEREO being really good off the Wolfson DAC. plus when ur testing it on 2.1 ur already using the best part of the card..the Wolfson DAC. whereas the rest of the channels are on crap. god only knows why Chaintech made it that way.

3/ soundstage. since most of ur reference to soundstage pertains to music. well..refer #1. but i find it hard to believe that a 2.1 can outbeat a 5.1 in terms of movies. a good DVD with a good source will give u amazing results in terms of soundstage. my HTPC at home only uses the onboard audio with my 5.1 R501 and i am absolutely amazed with the soundstage even if its just onboard audio. the surround sound effect is awesome. in one movie i even felt as if the bullets were zooming past right behind my head.
*anyway, would like to read ur views on movies since u didnt put any.
*would also like to read what ur thoughts are in terms of gaming with these 2 speakers

(*) again, AV710 is not really a good source for these

4/ ur comparing a musical speaker with a non-musical speaker...and ur test material is music...so........
basically same thing as #1 la biggrin.gif

these are just some thoughts on ur review. didnt mean to dispute what u say...but like i said some thing just bothers me.

if anyone is offended by my post...then i guess it sux to be u.

Acoustic Energy is a good company and Acoustic Energy's AE1 MKIII is voted again and again as the wonder speakers that outperforms the size that it is built at.

But it's not like I have that amount of money lying around for the AE1
