You talking about Redmi 5 only?
For Redmi 5 plus still remain 4000 mAh and same processor SD625.
*
Used to be 4100 mAh with RN4. To top it off, now the same SD625 need to drive more pixels on a bigger screen running on a slightly less juicy battery.

My gut telling me that a bigger screen alone would consume more power even before taking the extra pixels into account.

Well if you prefer to look at it that way, RN4 would still get you some better stats.

Cannot compare to older model.
RMN4 screen just 5.5" only and brightness are totally different.

Jan-Oct 2017 USD4.3 average / today USD4.0
Imports is cheaper assuming these new units are placed and paid in Dec2017-Jan2018
from a business perspective, I would price these units no less than current units as everybody in business wants to increase price and sell more assuming there is no competition.
*
The thing is even the Meizu M6S that equipped with Samsung Exynos 7872 (2x Cortex-A73 and 4x Cortex-A53) built on 14nm manufacturing process is slated for under RM700.

Should be higher than Snapdragon 650/652 since it is build on 14nm. Less heat n less throttling.
*
Exactly. And not just because the SD650 is built using 28nm manufacturing process. The big core for SD650 is the Cortex-A72 (older big core) while that particular Exynos that i mentioned is using Cortex-A73 as big core and is built using 14nm manufacturing process.

2x a73 i think the processor is same as sd650.... more powerful  rolleyes.gif
*
SD650 using the older A72 instead of A73 and SD650 is built on 28nm manufacturing process instead of 14nm for the particular Exynos.

3GB RAm seem like not enough for miui.... but tried out both redmi note 4 and 5 Plus .... redmi note 4 far betterr while scrolling fb...  hmm.gif
*
3GB working just fine with Redmi Note 4. Perhaps the ROM for Redmi 5 3GB is just so full of bloatware like most early modified "global" version of Chinese ROM

yeah.... previously miui 8 for RN4 slightly lag ,once updated to miui 9  smooth enough.

I think mi gonna released 2 phone by next month , one mi flagship / one Redmi series???  innocent.gif

anyway SD625 abit outdated processor nowadays  doh.gif
*
Agree. SD625 is a bit too old for my liking. Would at least go for the upcoming SD640 for my next phone.

640 would probably launch in the middle of the year and the earliest you should expect phone carry this processor would launch end of this year.
*
Or perhaps next year, knowing Xiaomi.

It's okay, you guys can go ahead. I guess I'm gonna have to just sit this one out.

Exactly. In term of screen on time for normal browsing, the RN4 still win hands down.

I have Redmi 5 Plus 3/32GB version right now original one (RM749) that released yesterday. It has OTA update to 9.2.6.0, should I update? With all these bootloop issue, or this only affect Import set?
*
If it is indeed an official global version, then i guess you already know the answer.

what makes you think that they are no spyware even if using global rom?
it could even be hardware coded, regardless of what kind of rom you use.
last time lenovo kena exposed, sending phone data to a certain server in china.
*
I think what he meant was, if the espionage act is committed by the phone company, it would be much easier for the authority to take action on instead of trying to catch some unknown developer of fake official ROM.
