Hi Benefon, is Redmi 5 Plus have notification light?
The small LED light usually at the upper edge of the phone, that will blink when we got new incoming message? Another use of the light is while charging, we can look at the light from a distance to determine if it is still charging without touching the phone.

Have located at the top right.
But white color only, will blink if incoming notification, also while charging.

Thats still daylight. The weakness of Redmi phones are low light/night shots where the pics are very noisy/grainy. A little worse than competitors.

There doesn't seem to be an improvement in the night photo of the Redmi5 vs the RN4. The daylight quality looks similar for both phones.

I'm more interested in 5" as well since its easier to fit in pockets without bunching. The 5a would've been perfect since it has a dedicated microsd card slot as well but the the features are really cut down to make it an ultra budget phone - slower cpu, no compass, gyro, fingerprint sensor.

Yep. I'm eyeing on 5 too rather than 5 plus. Not that I'm not used to Redmi Note 4 now but I don't really like the size.

Review and you do compare side by side has huge improvement from redmi 5s.
Redmi 4 quite a bit blurry without clear and clean image quality.
If due to low light maybe on night time for both are so so.. cause no built in OIS.

To be honest pay for less than 1k , what you can expecting.

Xiaomi's miui is heavily skinned and quite bloated compared to other android OS, which means its going to suck up more cpu and shorten battery life. In return you get extra features and nice eye candy.
But you shouldn't be too concerned about free ram since android is supposed to make use of unused ram for caching unless the phone is slower by constantly having to reload background apps.

Chinese rom , come with Chinese app, no Google play store.
But you can search in App store for Google play store app.

Chinese rom does not mean no English.
But very minor for others language.

Basically it comes with Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), English, Tibetian and Arabic on Chinese ROM.

Unlock or not I can't confirm. From my past experience using Mi devices if your devices version are older than the one you want to flash doesn't need to unlock. Just update using updater apps. It doesn't matter you want to change rom from chinese to global or vice versa. But if you want to flash developer rom than you must unlock. Maybe you can try first using Updater app.

I will try to backup and do normal update.
BTW such as my mix 2 need unlock the phone for 72 hours after that flashing from China to English rom.

I wish U good luck. Last time my RN4 can unlock in 5minute only. The trick is you ask the permission around 11am or around the time they open office. The other trick to ensure smoothness of unlock process you can download version 2.2.406.5 of Miflash. Doesn't need to wait for 72hours. This trick I learn from RN3 mi forum.

Now I still in a dilemma. Want to buy the 5 or the 5 plus variant. Haiya. Hope I make up my mind before Mi release the phone here officially. Sigh.

I think they is coming soon for global unit.

Maybe I buy the 5 plus variant. Some seller on Aliexpress already presale the global version. Hope they release it fast before CNY.
