I believe Renault engine is/was used in A and B class Mercedes only and usually diesel or petrol engine of 1.5L capacity only.

QUOTE(ksgill80 @ Mar 22 2016, 02:18 AM) Hi All, The W220 is quite solid. Yes, it does have the occasional issues and the airmatic is one of them. You can be lucky and have no issues but there are some who have constant issues with them. I happen to have owned one (S320) without any problems. Electronics were ok on mine as well. MB did produce S280L but they are rare in Malaysia probably because not many were brought in (or assembled locally).I hope this would be a good & fair forum for me to inquire about purchasing a merc. My brother currently has a 2nd hand W210 and is now thinking of a possible upgrade. Problem is he is a little fickle minded. So i am trying to help him out with the experts from here. His first thought is to get s W221 within the budget of 150K which hopefully can come with as many bells & whistle as it can like the media & sound system as well as the built in phone. So anyone know a good location to get 1 from? Also what should be the key things to look for to help ensure its a good buy. its been a lot of work trying to navigate around so much info related to this car yet not find the right answers The 2nd option my brother is toying with is to maybe get 2 cars - a W220 & W211. From what i have been reading (and i could be wrong) seems like the W220's airmatic is more of an issue as many ask questions on replacing it. Is it true that in the W220 this is a key pain point? Also how about the electronics? I also noticed there does not seem to be any S280L. Was the LWB only with the 320? On the W211 - what would be the key things to look out for? Btw the cabin space is smaller then the W210 right? or is it just me feeling so? Really hope to get some good insights from the sifus here. The W211 has been improved upon so i would think it would have less issues compared to the W210. Having not owned one (either the W210 or the W211) i cant say much more than that. |

QUOTE(ksgill80 @ Mar 30 2016, 10:32 PM) Thanks for this feedback. So far was not able to find a good W211 yet My thoughts-Just to update and get additional feedback. Saw a W221 model this afternoon. It is a S300L year 2007 with a mileage of approx 80K. Found a workshop in Gombak that could check the car. He found that there was no electronic concern but there was leaking oil and the compressor was louder then it should be indicating a possible issue. Few other parts as well were a problem but fixable. The rear tires were worn and need to be replaced. The rear dust cover for the airmatic was totally torn. But driving the car there is no sound or knocking to be heard. The Mechanic said it is fixable based on what he can see with an approx cost of RM5- 6K. This does not include the tires & airmatic dust cover replacement which apparently is not possible since it normally comes as an entire set. as for the bluetooth settings and phone sync up it seems like only C&C can do it and i was able to speak to a technician from the C&C in batu caves that says it would most likely need an update only and the cost of this check can be about RM300/hour. So he recommends to do the whole car check for about RM1K So would this car be worth the effort to have it fixed up with the knowledge we have now of its condition? The sale Price of course will have to be reduced due to the work that would need to be done. 9 year old car with 80k and all those issues? It could be clocked. Be warned. No electronic concern doesnt mean it will never have any in future. Leaking oil depends on where its leaking. Could be bad news. Compressor isnt all that cheap to replace (for ori MB stuff). Rear tires worn isnt an issue because its rear wheel drive and the rears tend to go first. If its unevenly worn then suspension and or alignment is suspect. And if they are 18" and above the prices are easily more than 1k each. Im sure you can get a better car if you are patient enough and i'd rather get a good car than a car that needs to be fixed. |
