Muslimc scholar Professor Dr Jasser Auda says there is no requirement for a multiracial country to be an Islamic state as long as the system of governance is just to all.

THE habit of sending students to learn about Islam in the Middle East should be stopped as they end up with their beliefs “corrupted” due to the political culture there, said a Muslim scholar.

“We need to differentiate between culture and Islam. This doesn’t mean cultures, including Arab culture, are bad... (but) what is happening these days is highly political,” said Professor Dr Jasser Auda, chairman of London-based think tank Maqasid Institute.

“They come back and cause issues. For instance, those from the US, Canada and European countries, they go and study in the Middle East, and when they return home, they divide the community. They cause all sorts of problems after studying in the Middle East.

“We need to stop the trend of sending people to the Arab world, which is at a really low historical point these days, to learn about Islam,” he said at a roundtable discussion on “Reclaiming the Centre: The Role of Religion in a Multiracial Society”, organised by the Centre for Nation Building Studies at Institut Darul Ehsan in Shah Alam.

I don't get this. When everyone is connected with technology, all information is easily shared, retrieved and all. And yet we still need to send them far away to get the info - we don't send them to learn the culture anyway, only the knowledge.

What nonsense. U go to another country to study and to assimilate urself into their style and culture. U go there to learn their culture.

Thats why so many ppl gng aus , uk, and US to study. Cuz their culture there is great.

U must have studied locally. Only those who have studied abroad will know what its like.

Thats why most CEOs of big MNCs have overseas education.

There's a sense of novelty involved, being regarded as the place of origin thus there's an assumed mutual relationship with authenticity/purity of the knowledge

But to reflect on current situation the middle east definitely has seen better times much like what is suggested in OP

It bind together.

In the case of sturdy religion, it included culture which is a blur line.

Very often that people don’t know it is culture or religion.
