yes frieza's ego was crushed last time when he was killed by goku, he trained so hard and get the new golden form.

this series is about battle between universe, the loser will get his universe erased from existence

edit :answering your question. frieza not friendly, in this series he was so unpredictable and most of the time he just watch saiyans getting beaten. he only help few time but he state it clearly so many time he hate saiyan so much so many time throughout the series. probably he got ulterior motives why did he agreed to be on the same team with his enemies

of course la DBZ was legend, but most viewers are either reviving their childhood or looking foward on what else can be happened after u be the strongest among the strongest.

check with the DBZ timeline and then you'll knew why super is interesting. iinm DB super was before reincarnation of kid buu era, ending of DBZ. but need to recheck my sources
