Hi, I was diagnosed with considerable tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with evidence of disruption of fibre bundles, associated oedema and a small fluid collection. There's also might be a small linear ligament tear in the posterior horn of lateral meniscus. I got these injury when playing in a rugby match where I fell following a 'pop' sensation in my right knee.

These were found following GP consultation, Sports Specialist consultations and a MRI scan done over my right knee. Total cost about 260 EURO (RM 1250). Huhu. I cry 😭. They advised me to get an ACL Reconstruction Surgery which I think will be really expensive here in Ireland (cheapest I found from googling is about 3200 EURO, about RM 15k). 😭😭😭

Does anyone done or know where and how much will an ACL Reconstruction Surgery and Meniscus Repair would cost in Malaysia? Do you have any suggestions for surgeons or hospitals that perform tge procedure? Planning to get the surgery in Malaysia when I got back this January.

Thanks 😬

can you afford to wait that long? it sounds kinda risky...

Based on what the doctor said, sooner is better. But, he advised me to get second opinion from knee surgeon first. Planning to do that for now, might as well get the estimated cost

Did mine last week for ACL recon using hamstring graft and repair complex tear on PCL and Medial meniscus.

4 days stay in private hospital. Current damage a bit north of RM30k. Additional cost for further PT and follow up check. Insurance pay full for me.

That’s a lot going on with your knee. Hope you getting on good (:

In my case, i have no insurance or medical card right now. Maybe will go with government for lower price tag if the waiting list is not too long.

Torn the ACL back in 96. Back then ACL management was not as good as now, only did a repair without any recon. Fast forward 21 years with multiple  knee gave away mishap, sciatica, back pain  and running with a limp, thats what I get of not having reconstruction much earlier. Do it while you are still young so that recovery will be much faster, and less damage on the knee.

Thanks for the info. Planning to do it once I’m back in Malaysia in January. Just looking for any recommended hospital and the total cost for the procedure.

Just did my MRI and my experience of facing the injury is exactly the same. Will update when my sports surgeon is back.
Otherwise, walking with a limp now and can't fully extend the knee.
*
Mine, the pain already reduced. Can walk a bit better now, but not too far tho (sometimes my knee just suddenly gave out). Still cannot fully extend or bend my knee for now. Waiting to get back to Malaysia soon and consult with a sport surgeon.

I think you should seek treatment sooner, as far as i've read up and seeked opinion from the hospital;
meniscus injury can cause locking of knee
typically is when you are unable to fully extend or flex your knee when pain is minimal.
and for younger people, the prognosis and speed of recovery is better, in terms of repairing meniscus first.
ACL is a different thing; means that you can repair meniscus, then only ACL.
ACL won't heal on it own.
The giveaway you are feeling; im having it too; the way to reduce it is by wearing a good brace.
But if your knee won't straighthen, won't you walk with a limp?

Just met with an orthopaedic surgeon today. He suggested surgery to be done considering my age. He will send me the quotation to me later as well as the date for the surgery to be done. Will be looking at 6k-7k in GH.

I had the holy trinity one. Acl, mcl and meniscus.

Acl full rupture. Mcl partial tear, meniscus partial tear.
Did it with dr Gan in kpj damansara back in 2011. Cost about 25k then.

My friend did it last month in sjmc. 30k.

There’s 3 ways to fix the acl. 1 is use ur own tendon from the thigh. 2 is use patella tendon where they take a bit of patella bone also to fuse it. More invasive.
3rd one is most expensive. Use tendon harvested from third party.
*
Just met with a surgeon today in Teluk Intan GH. He suggested surgery which will use my own tendon from tge thigh. The approximate cost would be around 6-7k. Hoping i got the surgery slot that I requested tho.

private?
as long as you are ready to sacrifice your tendon knowing the complications thereafter
do you still have problems with stability? such as while walking/jogging feeling a give away?
*
I do have problems with stability when jogging esp. walking only if long distance as well as going down the stairs.

I already did my surgery in gvmnt hospital (cost abt 5k). Now, in recovery process. Private asked for about 21k (as i have no insurance and the fund opt for gvmnt).

I already did my ACL Surgery (Arthroscopy ACL Reconstruction using Hamstring as graft under spinal anaesthesia).

The whole procedure was almost painless (at least to me) except when their administering the anaesthesia through my spine. Fully awake during the whole procedure, so I can hear and feel all the drillings, pullings and pushings during the whole thing except, PAIN. To be honest, I feels more like in a workshop instead of in OT (operation theatre).

Currently, in recovery process with all the physios that need to be done.

Thanks everyone for all recommendations and experiences shared.

How is your knee now? How many % back to pre-injured level? As good as the other non injured leg?
*
Almost 100%. Strength, muscle bulk, pain, laxity - all gone. Just, my range of motion reduced a bit. Maybe around 5 - 10 degrees less in full flexion at knee joint (active movement, passive no problem). Other than that, no issues. Now, sports like badminton, ping pong, running and etc no problem. Just not joining contact sports competitively as I used to. Maybe too afraid that I might torn something else. Lol. As far as for daily activities go, no issues.

How much total cost? Does insurance cover for ACL?

May I ask how much was for the whole operation please?
I would like to know as I used to play badminton and have had knee injury.  cry.gif  sad.gif

I'm not entirely sure about the cost in Pantai Hospital. Last time I did asked about quotation from Private Hospital was about 25k without MRI Scan. I ended up doing my operation in Government Hospital. They gave me 3 quotations from 3 different companies (5k, 7k, 10k). So just need to choose from these prices for the implants needed for it. I did my MRI scan already in Ireland about 200 euros. So, no need to queue for scan in Malaysia. From my first visit to my operation day was about 2 weeks only. So quite fast.

Thanks for your fast reply!
1 of my colleague who's also in active badminton, futsal and football player also had his ACL and MCL (IINM) torn.
His operation cost was near or around MYR40K++.  doh.gif

The 25k is only isolated acl injury. If mixed with other ligaments gonna cost more, like what your college had to pay. Huhu. Expensive injury

Fuhhhh. What to do.

QUOTE(Amedion @ Jul 3 2020, 03:22 PM)
Yeah one of my friend said near RM 40k .. If insurance no cover then better not go for surgery. lol
*
Maybe can go government. But, my suggestion if can do all the relevant scans private better do that private. Surgery can do government. Can save waiting time for scan oso.
