Hi, im seeking some advices

I have been renting a room with a master tenant(sub-letting) for 2 months and have paid a 2.5 months deposit(including ultilities deposit).I didn't sign any formal written contract because I later found that the master tenant is fishy and don't feel like binding to his t&c. So most of our agreement is based on whatsapp conversation. The duration of the sub-tenancy agreement is 1 year.

Later than, the landlord informed me that his contract with the master tenant will be ended in the end of Dec 2017 and has no intention to extend the agreement. The master tenant told landlord that she will not be paying the remaining rents and ask him to deduct the amount from her deposit which is withold by the landlord.

Im concerned that my own deposits wouldn't be secured because there is a chance she might take my deposits and disappear in the end of december. So i told the master tenant:' hey im not going to pay the rents anymore and you can contra the amounts withy deposit. eventually there will be no loss between us.'

the master tenant refused to do so and insist for the remaining rentals(nov and dec),she even threathened saying that she may evict me out.

* after December, she will cease to be the mastrr tenant and I will deal with the landlord directly.

my question:
1.Can a master tenant evict sub-tenant without landlord's consent/court's order.
2.Is it doable to contra 2 months rental with 2.5months deposit given the facts the master tenant couldn't be in charge anymore in the end of december 2017
3.as a subtenant, since the master tenant is not living in the unit, can I change the lock at the front gate?
4. If the master tenant is not living here ever since I moved in, does she amount as master tenants,.insteda of an agent?

thank you.

99% of the time, sub-letting is illegal as the master tenant usually did it without the owner's consent, so there's really no law to protect the master tenant, if I were you, I'll be the one threatening the master tenant.
The landlord must be stupid if he were to agree to let master tenant deduct his rental from the deposit

thanks for your advice,
but given the facts the landlord is fully aware of my existence, I guessed the sub-tenancy is done with landlord's implied consent

Doesn't matter, I doubt the tenancy agreement you signed with the master tenant (if any) is a valid one, you'll need to toughen up against the master tenant
