I don't f**king need to level up to be able to hit targets 100 yards away. In the head. All I need is a good weapon and a scope. That's what Stalker is about. I massacred the army roadblock with a pistol early in the game using some established army-styled tactical movements (run in, bang bang, you're dead, run out and bandage myself, rinse and repeat). I massacred the whole army base with just the Viper (and a lot of bullets) in the same style before I even got to Agropom.
And just imagine if I had to level-up to be able to aim or deal reasonable damage. I'll still be paying shitloads of money to the army guys just to get through the roadblock.
That's the reason why I love the concept of STALKER more than F3 - a Fantastically F*cked-up Flop.
Dude, the idea of level up to to provide some sorta incentive and variety to a gamer. He can choose which path to take his character: a vet soldier, commando, sniper, raider, bandit, trader etc etc. A trader would be loaded with $$ and can hire soldiers to do his tasks.
I dun think rushing in rushing out is army style. U cannot heal bullet wounds (even if just to arms and legs) in a jiffy. So this is hardly army style.
Now climbing up a high peak with bushes with a high powered sniper rifle + silencer/muffler and taking the soldiers out one by one, now's that real life, that's how d sniper boys do it. And that's how I take out the roadblocks in Stalker.
Now if character development in Fallout 3 is similar to F2, then we can have high sneak and take out the army one by one, whether with a pistol + silencer or just a Rambo knife.

If you're looking looking for an example of a 3rd person shooter - RPG combo, you should take a look at Mass Effect. It's pretty good, though the RPG elements are somewhat less than F1 & F2...
Mass Effect is revolutionary but it has too much dialogue yak yak yak, kills that action. If I want to see dialogue and drama, I'll go watch a movie. FPS should be about bang bang!! I do like d romance and sex between characters though, now that's new.
