Just to say about the high reviews, journalism in video games isn't really at a good standard.  People can be bought out.  I remember some dude saying Kane and Lynch was shit on like...Gamespot I think, and he was fired soon after because Eidos complained.

So yeah.  Not saying all reviewers and reviews are like that, but just be wary.

I personally ignore the scores and just read the thing and look out for concrete things.  Less of "It feels like you're in an apocalyptic world" and more of the "The combat system uses a combination of AP, hit percentages and..." parts.
*
I dont trust reviews these day as most of them just over look all the bad bits of a game and praise the good parts as if it's god sent or something.

I rather go to forums and read about people's comment.

Game review sites are untrustable these days.

Go read the RA3 review in Games Radar.Ridiculous review.

I dont even bother with F3.

I saw the game play videos and im not interested at all.The environment is plain and boring.Just too brownish.Models are ugly after seeing VATS in action and the system seems stupid to me.

Technically just a game for consoles.Another victim of dumb-down-sa-tion.

I have to say, hell its all about the consoles nowadays. Makes me wonder what else does the PC has in its sleeves, still missing some good games.
*
Yeah, those dumb down games are putting me off.Im definitely gonna try Witcher.Seems like one of those last few deep RPGs.

I think even RA3 suffer from dumb-down-sa-tion. doh.gif

Yeah consoles are great for people with short attention spans tongue.gif . Seriously...in days like these...I would just say hold on and have some faith. We will get our time in the near future with rage, L4d, DoW2, ETW and heck HL2 Episode 3. All PC games made for the PC. OOooo Dragon AGe too.
*
Hope thats true.

It seems like more and more devs are shifting to developing console games than PC games. It's making me sad.

That's a bad way to judge a game, I personally thought The Witcher was going to be rubbish as it was made by a new company, but when I played it, it was wayyyy better than I thought. The contains full blown nudity though blink.gif
*
Im just not interested with F3.

Beth is not a new company and i never got interested with their games. From Morrowind to F3.

Ridiculous requirements and shallow gameplay.Dont bother to waste my time on it.

RPG still work well on isometric or 3rd person view. Not 1st person for me.

If they made Fallout 3 as hard as the prequels, they would obvious be selling wayyyy less copies of the game. I would also say that if you guys keep on complaining about this game, you are disrupting the gameplay discussion of this game.
*
If the game is easy, there isnt a point of playing then.

Honestly,i hate games which got dumbed down so that those console people get to play with their game pads,in general.Especially RPGs.

I'm hoping SC2 would change that.

But games in general nowadays are made to be newbie friendly. Spoon feeding and don't leave the retarded kid behind. Political correctness in the gaming industry - that's the future.
*
There are some more difficult RTS like CoH but RTS in general, are getting simpler like RA3.

The only thing i worry about SC2 is,i might not like it because it will be lack of innovations compare to games like DoW2.

WC3 hero system just dont work in SC.

Besides, every new feature Blizzard add, they have to be careful because it might piss off the veterans. For example, the SC community hates heroes in general.

Dont think you to see the same Fallout 3 disaster happen to SC2,right?

Im just gonna get the game then. The more i read, the more curious to find out who is right.

The fans or the devs? Is Beth that shitty?

Im gonna play RA3,Witcher and Deadspace along with F3.So that i'll get a less biased view.Maybe find some way to get F1 and F2.

Curiosity is killing me now.

This thread is epic.Been reading since the start.

This is what happen when people become too smart and start changing things too much. You just end up with a game that is not even similar to the old games while it's not entirely a new game.

No wonder Blizzard is so conservative in SC2 and D3 as too much fundamental changes piss off the fans.

Never really like this game as it's just an eye candy. The environments look great and thats about it.Animation is just horrible,so chunky.

That's why id software created RAGE and not Quake 5 with wheels in a wasteland in the first place.
*
Yeap, the same thing will happen if id make Quake 5 with wheels,SC2 with CoH's cover mechanism,or CoD6 with pew pew lasers and light sabers.

Pissed of the loyal fans since the first game, this is what you'll get.Angry vengeful fans that will just kill the devs.

Same thing happen to me when EALA made Generals.C&C without the side bar,WTF???? I hate it so much until they come out with Zero Hour which is a much better game.

Actually, I was thinking more on the lines of making Quake 5 into a top-down shooter game. That'll REALLY piss some people off. Or Gears of War 3 as a platformer. Or Starcraft 3 as a hiking simulator.
*
Dont have to go to all these extreme.Even current SC2's MBS(cant remember what it stands for),most of the old SC players hate it so much just because it allows you to select more than 12 units.

QUOTE(cracksys @ Jan 19 2009, 09:55 AM)
but newtards won't get it. they'll just assumed pissed people as an un-based whiner

Caused most of them never played the previous games before.

MBS stands for Multiple building selection. I personally don't see what is so wrong to building multiple units through multiple building selection, you could even do it in Warcraft anyway. smile.gif
*
I dont see anything wrong with it.It's more like god send to me as i hate the old limitation of 12 max units or only can select one building at one time.

Just the SC1 players hate it.

i think most rpg noobs here never really touched a good well crafted rpg, cause i think in the last years (decade) theres only a handful of games that i would say like damn this IS great.

far as i can think of

kotor

and erm

kotor?

Fable:Lost Chapters?

Or it's a hack and slash RPG like game?

another reason why Beth nerfed down their games. brats just don't want challenge anymore.

Yeap, thats why most games we get today suxs because the devs want to make it to cater those lazy people.

I can tell you that there are definetely people like us around. We are what big time devs/publishers call as a niche these days...

Western developers seem to be too preoccupied with streamlining(this is not bad), simplyfying their games simply because they believe that will allow them to maximise their sales. Gone are the days were you used to call an RPG a CRPG and literally they were computerised versions of these table top games(this is also the same with strategy games but wargames still survive...a very small niche).

Developers/publishers like Stardock are very much in the old school of thought. They make games hardcore fans of 4X games want to play.

Also the rise of Eastern European developers are something to keep your eye on.  Their games are more inspired by really old school game mechanics and have that charm of old games.

Way off topic...this deserves a separate topic really...I think the strategy gamers would have their own opinion too...considering Relic is hellbent in thinking they need to 'revive' RTS by removing certain things...

PS : I don't think streamlining is a bad thing...It's just that some developers that use that term dumb down their game and say that is streamlining...That is bad streamlining...good streamlining is like what Civ 4 did...They don't remove the depth...they make it easier to manage different levels of information...

It can also be argued that dumbing down of depth is also more of a console centric development approach(I'm sure you know what I mean when they talk about attention span etc)...but as i said...way off topic...
*
Im one of those old timers.Been playing RTS since Dune 2.

I do think we need a thread on the so-called streamlining.I would prefer to call it retarding-fication,as it involves removing the key elements(for genre lovers) or annoying elements(for haters of the genre) that make a genre fun to something is just so incomplete so that some retard could play the game.

This is a pandemic and it should be stopped.Streamlining is bad.Dumb down would be a better word to use.

Relic. shakehead.gif I still dont like what they have done for DoW2.Seems like Relic and Beth is on the same boat now.

soggie and cracksys, seems like i'll be joining you guys too. biggrin.gif
