34" Ultrawide Curved or 32" Monitor ? Need advice!, Dilemma for new monitor

Hi, As per title, anyone can share some personal experience on this 2 type of monitor. Main concern is the size, any resolution will do. Thanks bro @raydenex for sharing. I went to see some demo unit at computer shop and compared Acer x34 predator vs Samsung S32D850T. I feel more comfortable with 32" in terms of movie and web browsing, 34 ultrawide looks smaller compare to 32". Maybe im not use to ultrawide yet, i dunno  . In term of gaming, thumb up for 34 ultrawide, it match the games that i usually played (diablo 3, witcher 3 ...). Since my usage is more in movie and web browsing, i will go for 32" but i saw some members upgraded monitor from 32" to 34 ultrawide made me feel dilemma  |

Thanks bro @Andrewtst, really appreciate for your time to wrote your sharing. Sorry if i raise out some silly question  , im noob that y i asking here before decide which to buy. My replied on below. - What kind of movie you watch? YouTube? Drama? Cinema Movie?
- If YouTube and Drama, mostly will be 16:9 ratio, means you will get black bar at left and right side when using Ultrawide 21:9 ratio monitor.
- If Cinema Movie, mostly will be 21:9 ratio, then you get awesome experience view in full screen (exclude Netflix crap windows program render all movies in 16:9 ratio even the movie itself is 21:9 ratio). But you get black bar in top and bottom when using wide 16:9 ratio monitor watching 21:9 ratio movie.
- They is no perfection here BUT I rather have left and right black bar than top and bottom, why? simply as left and right black bar not smaller the view of the movie as in top and bottom black bar.
- Web browsing wise if your 32" is 2560x1440, then it is much awesome as you scroll less. But then again they is 3440x1440 resolution Ultrawide which give you same scrolling as 2560x1440 wide monitor, just everything will be smaller in Ultrawide based on your selection screen size because basically 34" Ultrawide is longer edition of 27" wide only. If you want to getting same big size as 32" wide, then you need to go for 38" Ultrawide which is in another level of resolution and you may face gaming smoothness issue later. For the moment all 38" Ultrawide in market now is 3840x1600 resolution.
Movie/Drama i usually watched online (Vumoo & Hollymoviehd), so there will have black bar at left and right side for 34" Ultrawide? For nice cinema movie i will get bluray, not sure 34" widescreen can able to view full screen or not.
hmmm, for web browsing, will it be too small to view 2 browser at 34" ultrawide screen?
2. 40% gaming (having gtx980)
- Gaming is another level feel when you own the Ultrawide, the experience can't describe in word. You get more viewing space and Ultrawide let you have more immersive feel on gaming than Wide.
- But not all games support it, some games can't even support it if you custom modified it. In this case you can only play those not support games with left and right side black bar.
- You need to have some knowledge or at least wiling to try modified some very simple thing to get more Ultrawide support in games especially some older games. Flawless Widescreen is a very easier free tool that automatically do for you for a lot famous games that not run in proper or need custom way to run it. Another is a huge source website that show you a lot of way to run games in 21:9 ratio properly http://www.wsgf.org/mgl/uws
- I switch from Wide 32" 2560x1440 to 34" Ultrawide 2560x1080, what i miss on Wide QHD and what I more prefer in Ultrawide FHD.
- I do miss the smaller look in QHD for 32" which just fit nice. I had try change my monitor in not native resolution to QHD, everything just look too small to me, I prefer QHD only in 32" Wide or 38" Ultrawide. It is kind of small for QHD in 27" Wide or 34" Ultrawide.
- Beside above, I am far more enjoying in Ultrawide, even though my Ultrawide is only FHD (2560x1080) but it is actually better to me as less power killer in my laptop 970M GPU with very cool immersive feel on it and more area to see. Everything just looks much pretty in 21:9 ratio gaming.
- Some may complain 1080p too pixel in 27" Wide or 34" Ultrawide as 1080p should stop at 24" Wide only (equivalent to 29" Ultrawide). For this I find they is not much differences at all when comparing side by side with my another 1080p resolution 24" Wide monitor. Yes the PPI is different of 82PPI v/s 92PPI. I do seen a very bad look on 1080p at 27" before which is TN panel where the sharpness all gone and look pretty bad, but it looks as sharp as it is on high quality IPS panel to me. yea, in game everything will be smaller for 34" ultrawide compare with 32". However 34" ultrawide giving more viewing space which is awesome for me. This is the reason im considering ultrawide, im looking in to Predator 34x UltraWide QHD which will be more expensive compare to LG or Samsung because there are so call NVIDIA® G-SYNC, not sure worth it or not?
Lastly you never mentioned on what resolution and refresh rate you going to get. IMO
- 34" Ultrawide is fine on 2560x1080 or 3440x1080, depends on which you prefer and your card should not have issue on either resolution.
- 32" Wide, go for at least 2560x1440 resolution as 1920x1080 resolution looks pretty crap IMO, everything is not sharp and very pixel look.
- I notice you mentioned if got 4K I will go for 4K, IMO your current card is not powerful enough for 4K and 4K is real nonsense even on 32" as everything will be tiny, you need to scale up the windows scale from 100% to maybe 125% or even 150%, in this case they is like using 1080p or 1440p monitor with just much sharpen look. But Windows scaling is pretty bad and still a lot of application not proper support which make you headache as it can be not usable at all. For me 4K is only useful if you go bigger screen size, for example 43" and above and only Nvidia Geforce 1080Ti can handle it proper with only 60hz refresh rate as all 4K monitor now only up to 60Hz.
- Ya, refresh rate, go for at least 144hz or higher, you will gain a very big differences especially if you are a FPS gamer. You get superb smooth with less blur if the refresh rate getting higher and higher, I only can use my monitor at 95hz due to my laptop only have HDMI 1.4 and that is the maximum refresh rate I can get under 2560x1080 resolution and I already notice the differences and enjoying it pretty much.
4k will be awesome for bluray cinema. Understand there will be constrain on gaming  . There are pros and cons to consider 4k. My side i saw 4k only applicable for 32 Samsung or LG, 34" ultrawide max is UHD.
Now showing off a bit my current monitor setup. Haha! 34" Ultrawide 2560x1080 and 24" Wide 1920x1080 in Portrait Mode. In such setting I fulfill all my needs from gaming to movie to web surfing and I find it looks pretty cool actually. Haha!  Awesome setup, notice it at another topic. I will get another monitor for vertical setup mainly for web surfing later  . Im wondering why you get Viewsonic VP2468, is quite expensive with only 24" and 1080 , there are many choices beside this model. |
