Actually came across this thread in Yahoo! Answers couple of months back, and really saw some interesting feedback. Some say it's tribal, sense of belonging, etc. What do you guys think?

For me, it's basically wearing my support for my club on my sleeve. And I'm proud of that! However, there must be a limit lah on where you should or could wear it to...came across some ppl sporting jerseys at weddings, for crying out loud! that's just too much lah...

Yeah, I do wear them casually when going out.

One thing about jerseys is that they are really comfortable and cool to wear in Malaysia's hot and sunny afternoons.

I wear my kit around because I'm proud to show my allegiance. I make it more of a point to wear it the day after a defeat, probably in defiance. I want to show that my support is unconditional and I won't go hiding my face shamefully in defeat. I dare to say that most fans won't do the same. We stick by our clubs through the good times but especially the bad ones. It's the same reason I don't understand people who turn of the television or leave the stadium before the game is over. A few Liverpool fans were guilty of doing the same in Istanbul. We are fans and as fans, we stay till the end.

I got Carragher emblazoned on my kit because I still feel that many Liverpool fans don't appreciate him. Most obviously have "Gerrard" on theirs for even more obvious reasons. It's like I read somewhere, "If Steven Gerrard is the heart of Liverpool Football Club, then Jamie Carragher is it's soul". Both are at least of equal importance.

A little OT but I have to mention this. Speaking of weddings, a girl friend of mine just got married and she used lyrics from "You'll Never Walk Alone" while reciting her wedding vows. I'm so touched, I'm going to cry now biggrin.gif Wait a minute, I'm not the husband tongue.gif

The shirts are made to be worn so what wrong using as casual wear but the place and time have to be right as TS spotted some wearing at wedding ceremony doh.gif even if the shirt itself cost 200-300.

I don't wear my jersey casually. I only wear it when I go watch the game. I would wear a trainer casually though.

Of course.............. I will. What's the point having a crazy huge jersey collection? Besides, the reason why is because I sweat a lot. Wearing jersey makes it feel more comfortable when I sweat, compared to wearing my office attire or other clothes. Besides, to show my alliance to which club and team I love and support.

I wore my United jersey while attending my friend's wedding. No big deal.. my mates laughed at it when I showed my jerseys's club badge to them.

you mean kenduri style? i think that is still acceptable lah as kenduri is meant to be casual anyway, with the exception of the bride and groom.

i saw this guy wearing at those restaurant/hotel ballroom types wedding EVEN though when the invitation card said formal. maybe he thought that his jersey was formal enough lah...

and FYI, he was wearing the England Home shirt (the reversible one).

Well for kenduri also, you should wear a decent formal attire la. Wear a baju batik or something. Besides, it was considered a very 'formal' kenduri because my friend is a daughter of a rich bloke staying at Shah Alam, so most visitors were like datuks and tan sri... For me, to hell with that. I was the single sad guy who's proudly wearing the United home jersey with ROONEY 8 on it at the kenduri. Who cares... besides later that night there's a live EPL match involving United. My wife is a bit pissed but she doesn't bother that much afterwards..

Even if I travel, in my bag I carry 90% United or England jerseys. I only don't wear jerseys when sleeping. For 3 days trip, I carry 4 jerseys. One for each day and one for spare. I don't mind, when I go back I love to wash them.. then iron them and then hang them proudly until my wife nags about it. Then I will keep it in my closet.

I once took a challenge by my mate. I wore the Schmeichel goalkeeper kit I have in my crazy collection and then wore a goalkeeper pants and socks. Weared some sports shoes went to Ipoh Parade. Everyone at Ipoh Parade was looking at me. My mates all laughed like crazy afterwards. Those crazy days when I used to stay in Ipoh.. Hmmm...

I have a United shorts that match one of my united jerseys. You can see in my collections here: http://christopherd4965-scam.blogspot.com/...rsey.html#links

In fact I'm in process of buying 2 United shorts (the blue one for the now third kit and the white one used during the black away and white third).

user posted image user posted image

Mind you, both these shorts are player version shorts. Code 7 Nike products, the same one worn by the players actually in matches....

I love to wear them in pair with the correct jersey and go out. But normally I do that when I play futsal and I'm not the goalie. I normally play in goal.

schmeichel7,
You have the biggest collection of jersey i've ever seen by a single individual. Makes my collection look rather small.

As to where i wear the jersey to, i only wear them when i go out shopping or even during Saturday's to office where its casual dressing day. I'll definitely not wear it to weddings or to official functions simply because there's a dress code and you have to adhere to it. There's no point trying to be different by wearing jersey when its clearly stated formal dressing. Makes others wonder if one can read or not.

Added on April 19, 2007, 9:05 pmBTW, i actually do have the Diadora Roma jersey with Mazda as sponsor. Its one of the most comfortable jersey i ever own. Super soft and i feel damn comfortable wearing it. Only complain is that each time i hand wash it, there's color coming off. So i don't wear it that often anymore.

well i do have one AS Roma shirt with Nakata 8 at the back and it's the Kappa version - very tight fitting and makes u look buff man, esp if you have toned muscles. but make sure got SIX pack not ONE pack... biggrin.gif

as for the new Diadora one, saw @ Real One and feels stretchy as well, but not like the Kappa ones...

Thats the problem with Kappa jerseys when they first launched their super stretch tight fitting jerseys. It was meant to emphasize on opposition players pulling the Kappa players jersey. It looked so good on the Italian players and my lady friends were drooling over those hunky Italian players with those jerseys. However, the same cannot be said about the fans. Lets just say not all fans have Totti-ish body physique. Some of them were so damn fat and it their fats were stretching the jerseys. Made them looked silly. On the other hand, some were too thin and it made them look scrawny and stupid wearing those jerseys too.

That's the thing mate.. Unless if you have a six pack on your bod, better don't wear them. It was meant to help players wearing it in matches to prevent opposition players to purposely pull it. It's made out of lycra, same material use to make the tight pants such as the bicycle shorts or swimming suits. Very stretchy but hard to grab by opponents.

My mate used to have one spurs kappa jersey. He ironed it and the thing became sloggy and loose. Hehehe. dunno what he did, looks funny. For me, I will never wear a kappa jersey because I only have one pack. Hahaha.. My wife would laugh like crazy if she sees me wearing one.

The fact is, kappa sells jerseys for supporters in crazy sizes. They have XXXXL size jerseys, meant for big guys like me. So if you wear an XL, don't dream of wearing a XL kappa jersey comfortably.

Diadora is different, not so body hugging like kappa. Diadora is the dying breed of sports brands that is still trying to survive in the world of football (along side brands like Lotto). Mizuno and asics are almost dead (they more focus on boots only). Nike and adidas are the two big brands that seems to be unbeatable at the moment..

I wish United wore umbro back again. Umbro were so creative and innovative on United jerseys. United had jerseys with laced collars, background of old trafford, zipped collars, cotton-wool like jerseys (sharp digital jersey), reversible centenary jersey and others.. Nowadays, you look at Umbro and they are out of ideas already. The england kit almost has the same design like the Everton, West Brom, Notingham Forest and others....

yeah man you're right don't think that this kit was meant for supporters. I don't know about Italians but saw some pics on the telly of Spurs supporters in their Kappa kits... icon_question.gif

Some of the sizes are also not consistent season-by-season. I'm practically at the age where my weight/size won't fluctuate, and am wearing M for all my Adidas kits this season compared to L last season! I also noticed that the Lotto kits are quite tight for some big sizes, tried on one and fitted an XL! go figure...

It great to see many of us having special ways of portraying our support and love to our club.. As long as you buy original jerseys.. that's great. I don't care what people think when I always wear it during almost every occasion.

My MU t-shirts are not exactly jerseys per se, more like just normal MU clothes...

Anyway, i usually wear them (i have three, including one with Cristiano's number!) whenever i am watching MU games on the telly... I also wear the tees when going out with my gf, but not so often...

Actually the past jersey is more 'valuable' and highly sought after. The more older the jersey, the more retro and highly value it is especially if it's in mint or excellent condition. So don't throw it away la.. Trust me, because I am a hard core football jersey collector and I just don't talk the talk..

Great... another jersey collector, this time female.. I'm also impressed mate. Not many girls share my passion... There are some jersey collectors in this forum. Besides than me, aw13 (aaron wong) is also a very hardcore collector.

I know another malay dude who is even 5x crazier than me. He has a big room dedicated for all his collection. Later I post his link...

I'm actually planning to set up a group or club for all the collectors in Malaysia. Dunno where to start. When there's this club we all can share our collections, discuss on jerseys (date, technology, tips on taking care, etc), share our 'bible' which is the book called 'True Colours Volume 1 & 2' (find it at Kinokuniya, it's an amazing book) and others.. Only for collectors of authentic jerseys only. I don't tolerate with fakes.. Hehehe.. all jersey collectors do... But not sure where to start... Maybe in forum lowyat?

Your bf is one damn lucky guy.. Good for you. Wish my wife was as interested as you.

anyway, Laine85 you're more than welcomed to join us collectors, like schmeichel7 said, hard to find true female collectors. and of course, green with envy lah with all your signed shirts, only one I had signed was by Lampard. but cannot wear cos XXL (won in a contest)!

the NEW Newcastle shirt? not very popular here I'm afraid, very low quantities available as the support here in KL/Malaysia is not that strong. popular clubs in the EPL over here are Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, so there will be a lot more stock of these clubs' jerseys. haven't seen the new Newcastle shirt in Al-Ikhsan or KL for that matter, first time I see it here in the forum on your bf's back!

anyway, welcome to the collectors' world! rclxms.gif

Liverpool kits? There was a whole lot for sale couple of seasons back, all Original stuff from Reebok, before they switched to Adidas this season. New Real kit? Not sure when will hit our shores, maybe July? But will definitely update all collectors here!

hmm this month after i came back KL i've met a die hard newcastle friend and he was wearing the new original newcastle shirt, i only know he bought in malaysia, not sure where though. he had name printing and EPL badges on as well

i have a few collector friend, 1 of them is mostly barca collection and i believe he's in this forum as well (might be banned ;p) and probly a lot ppl know him. my bf is majorly newcastle collections.

my housemate in uk (msian) buys jersey from all the cities that she been to as present for her bro (she's mega rich but know nothing bout football), its quite funny, every time she goes to a city she will call me to ask 'whos the most famous player in this team?' then she will print the name on that jersey. as far as i know she has sunderland, newcastle, celtic, barcelona, liverpool, mu, chelsea, leeds, birmingham (and some i forgot) u should get to know her ;p her bro went london once and bought 12 pieces of chelsea jersey at stamfordbridge as sourvenior for his friends >.<

btw.. what contest was that? ;p

and... please update me when the arsenal away jersey is out, ill run to the shop as quick as possible before my size sold out ;p

from what i remember, the Arsenal away kit will be out by the 1st week of july, cant remember if it's 4th or 7th though! just keep a lookout in sports stores around london, am sure they will have it on display straightaway! locally, dunno lah, the release dates are not trumpeted around, maybe same as in UK maybe not. Chelsea's new kit was launched in the UK on 28th June, while in HK 4th July. Hope to see it soon in KL though! thumbup.gif

from what i remember, the Arsenal away kit will be out by the 1st week of july, cant remember if it's 4th or 7th though!  just keep a lookout in sports stores around london, am sure they will have it on display straightaway!  locally, dunno lah, the release dates are not trumpeted around, maybe same as in UK maybe not.  Chelsea's new kit was launched in the UK on 28th June, while in HK 4th July.  Hope to see it soon in KL though!  thumbup.gif

I remembered the days when Arsenal were with adidas. They (the jerseys) were unique and awesome as well..

Here were some of the arsenal adidas jerseys that stick in my mind:

1. Adidas away (1991-1993)

user posted image

Labeled as 'the banana bruised jersey'

2. Adidas equipment home (1992-1994)

user posted image

Uses the template design of adidas equipment jersey of Germany during Euro 92. Not popular by gunners fans because of the extra 3 stripes at the sleeves.

3. Adidas equipment away (1993-1994)

My friend once said that this jersey looks as if the jersey was run down by a lorry.. Hehehe.. Worn when United beat Arsenal at Wembley during the 1994 Charity Shield. Game went to extra time and penalties... David Seaman wore the same blue goalkeeper kit (as shown above) and took the penalty that my hero Schmeichel saved.

Well... it's a retro jersey and very highly sought for. That's why I tell you the more retro the jersey, the more higher value it has......

Laine85, you're buying for yourself or for your friend? I think its gonna be real hard finding ladies jersey, unless you're willing to settle for S size. Ladies jersey's look quite good in the sense there's curve and it emphasizes the shape, unlike guy's jersey that looks pretty same.

I should be going KL within this week and probably stop by one of those Al Ikhsan shops to check out the jersey availability. Will PM you if there's any.

check out the BB plaza branch, it's supposed to be the Soccer/Football specific shop of all Al-Ikhsan branches. also, check out Real One which is one floor below. these 2 shops are pretty well-stocked with football kits, esp new ones.

Just wanna try my luck on Thursday or Friday. You never know, never under estimate Malaysians, we have all sorts of way to bring in things.

I got my maroon collectors edition Arsenal jersey like 1 1/2 month before it was launched in UK. I was wearing it in town the next day and i got some pretty long stares from people, probably wondering where the heck i got it from.

it's not for sale locally, maybe you can get them off the net. try either;

www.kitbag.com
www.subsidesports.com

these 2 sites are quite prompt and sells originals from the UK. however, postage may be a deterrent factor though....

Bro..

The commemorative badge or insignia (england vs brazil at wembley) is indeed sold in Malaysia. I just went back from BB Plaza and it's sold at Real One Zone store. The store is located one floor below Al-Ikhsan.

This is the badge that I mean:

user posted image

The match details (wordings that states 'ENGLAND VS BRAZIL 01-06-2007') I'm not sure if Real One Zone sells it. But you can find them at ebay as well... Jersey trend sells both of them at USD$19.00 + USD2.50 for shipping fee (or RM65.39 + RM6.88 for shipping fee). More details click here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wembley-England-Vs-B...oQQcmdZViewItem

New EPL letters and numbers are sold at al-ikhsan. But they are replica sizes. If you want player version sizes, unfortunately the nearest you can buy is at Singapore. Here are 2 ebay sellers that sell them:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Jersey-Trend
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/SoccerAuthentics

Cheers man. A nice picture. Nice picture size too heh

I only wear jersey when I play football. I dun even wear them when I play futsal. It's uncomfortable for me to be frank. When you don't sweat it feels like it's too new it stings you everywhere. Only feels good after you sweat
