KUALA LUMPUR: The "Datuk Seri" who allegedly assaulted three People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) members has been remanded for four days from Tuesday to help with investigation.

This was confirmed by Selangor CID chief Senior Assistant Comm Fadzil Ahmat.

The 29-year-old businessman's remand comes after police arrested him when he arrived at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters on Monday (Oct 30) evening, four days after police urged the suspect to give himself up.

The suspect, clad in a white shirt embroidered with the Winner Dynasty Group emblem, jeans and sandals, was seen entering the Ampang magistrate's court at around 11am on Tuesday.

He was easily identified by pressmen by his copper-dyed hair.

Two men, believed to be his companions, were also seen waiting in the vicinity as pressmen took videos and photos.

The case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code with using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duties and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

On Friday (Oct 27), three Rela members on security duty during a religious ceremony at Kout Ong Yah temple in Kampung Baru Ampang were allegedly roughed up by the "Datuk Seri".

In the 6.30am incident, one of the three had told the "Datuk Seri" that his car, which was parked right in front of the temple, was causing traffic congestion.

However, this eventually led to him and two other members who came forward to defuse the situation, to be beaten.

The three made a police report at the Ampang police station before heading to a nearby hospital for treatment.

MACC to look into the 'Datuk Seri' case too

KUALA LUMPUR: A 29-year-old ‘Datuk Seri’ who surrendered to the police, after three People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) members claimed they were assaulted by him, will also have to face the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The MACC will look into allegations that the suspect had offered the victims money to “settle” the issue.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Rela director general Zulkifle Abidin updated him of the allegation by the three Rela members that they were offered money to retract their reports.

"This case must be a lesson to others, so that in future there will not be any similar incidents," he said adding the MACC report was the right thing to do, now that the issue is of public interest.

Zahid who is also Home Minister said this after launching the Congress Bahasa Melayu Standards Framework (kongres Kerangka Standard Bahasa Melayu) at Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Bahasa Melayu here.

On Friday, the Datuk Seri was reportedly involved in the assault on Rela men - Ranbo Lee, 27, Jackie Leong, 21, and Melvin Cheong, 19 - when they asked him to move his Toyota Vellfire which was obstructing the traffic.

In the 6.30am incident which happened near Kau Ong Yah Temple at Ampang, Lee suffered bruises and swelling to his left eye, Leong was kicked and Cheong was hit on the back of his head.

Zahid said that the 'Datuk Seri' honorific title the man had at such a young age was not a licence to behave in such a manner.

"I do not want to touch on credibility of his title here but for a man whose so young with such a high title, he should know how to respect others and act in public. If you want to be respected you need to learn how to respect others first," Zahid said.

It is learnt that the man with a doctorate qualification is the chairman of a company which invests in several businesses such as real estate and property, healthcare, jewellery, travel, entertainment, e-commerce, and other financial instruments.

The Datuk Seri is investigated for causing hurt and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, under Section 324 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.
