Some home Blu-Ray theater system has a HDMI input as well as an HDMI output, which allows the home theater system acting as a pass-through device, only decoding the sound while passing the video signal to the TV. However, your particular LG Blu-Ray home system doesn't support such a function. What it does have are (1) one AUX-input and (2) an optical input, so you can choose to either: (1) buy a 3.5mm-to-RCA cable and connect the TV's 3.5mm output to the RCA input of the Blu-Ray player. Alternatively, you can also use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable if you want to plug into the Blu-Ray player's front 'portable-in'. (2) you can also get an external 'HDMI-optical splitter', which will act like a pass-through device, extracting the audio into optical output (which you can connect to the Blu-Ray player) while letting the video goes to the HDMI (and to your TV). You will want to make sure the splitter's optical / SPDIF output supports 5.1CH (most do, but some of the cheaper one might only able to do 2CH).
In the long run, option 2 is probably going to get you better result.

What OS you use? If its Win 8.1 and 10, you can use the sounds setting to set the default output. Right click the sound icon on the taskbar, select playback devices, then select one of it.

The HT system isn't a smart device and will not automatically switch between input. If you don't know how to do that, just read the manual. BTW, forgot to mention that if you stick to AUX-in or portable-in, you will only get 2CH sound. This post has been edited by ClieOS: Oct 30 2017, 01:44 AM
