I must be in the category of only 0.2% pool of ppl who is still (obsessed ) passionate with the (unpopular) IR. LOL
Although I don't use it daily but I treat it like having a first aid kit around.
Comes pretty handy when physical remotes are not near or hard to reach. Eg.... On the bed and the remotes are far too (lazy) to reach.
One time I was staying in a hotel. The remote is not placed in the room. At midnight the room so cold. With the phone IR. i turn up the temp instead of waiting for the reception ppl to come up. It would take a long time waiting. I was able to continue with the sleep without much distruption and inconvenient. And need to properly clothed when the hotel staff comes in. More over if you have your spouse or gf or kids in the room. Inconvenient loh.
One more instances, I was in a small VIP room in a restaurant with 10 pax. The AC was set at the coldest 16c. We called the waiters to come adjust the temperature but no one came. We waited very long. Waiters could have forgotten. And every one was chill to the bones. Lucky I was able to set to 27c with my IR blaster. And we continue with our meeting without shivering.
And I'm not going to elaborate how ( many times) or exaggerate I had impressed the chicks.
I'm sure you guys know the tricks or have tricks of your own up in the sleeve. LOL
Honestly, It's not a must have but it's nice to have.
Same with me.... found ir very useful to me.... no need to find remote control.... some of my friends envy me using phone as a remote.... feel like truly smartphone.... Although I don't use it daily but I treat it like having a first aid kit around.
