I'm thinking of buying a new Macbook Pro.

I'm a programmer so I use Mac for
- Java, PHP, C#, Python and Mobile(RN) programming
- Virtual Machine (Up to 3 VMs), Docker
- 2 extended screen (both 2k resolution)

Sometimes I use for
- Photoshop
- Video editing
- Documentation

Often I
- Browsing the web (open firefox, chrome like 25tabs)
- Watch 1080p-4k video on VLC and Youtube.

I rarely
- Gaming

I got 2 option:
- I was thinking of getting 13" i5 16gb 512gb ssd. But the i5 is still dual core and onboard graphic is still intel graphics. Not sure if dual core suffice for my demanding task. The price however is good though.

- i7 quadcore 16gb 512 ssd for 15". I just don't know if this consider overkill for my task. It's more powerful but alot pricier.

Which mbp spec meet my requirement and not overkill?

I would personally get the 15" Macbook Pro. Especially if you want to power two external screens, and the extra screen space and graphics card can assist you on your video editing.

if this is your only machine and you are really going to do video/graphic editing, then 15-inch one is certainly a better choice, since 13" i5 15gb ram 512gb ssd price is quite close to 15" counterpart.

if you have desktop/pc like iMac etc at home and you really value portability the most, go for 13-inch.

I do react-native.. and php ... i think your requirement unfit

Try take imac 27 inchi instead and max it up to 32 GB.
For travel ,macbook air .. or ipad pro.

Dual core is powerfull but the ram, i don't think it will enough
