Those with missing directx dll errors, pls update your DirectX via microsoft.com. That solved my missing dll problem. This applies to both DX9 and DX10.
Tested the DX10 version last nite. I didn't see anything that was supposedly DX10. The (irritating) snow that falls around you goes into motion blur if you turn around fast. Aliens that attack you also has motion blur effects on certain limbs that lunge out at you. All of which is probably doable in DX9. Explosions were nice before I realised they were just very-nicely-drawn bitmaps. It didn't have that volumetric smoke effect that I expected to see. Tonight I will install the DX9 version and test it just to be sure that there's a difference. Graphics aside, the gameplay is fun. As with all consoley games, you can't quicksave anywhere. In fact, there's no savegame feature at all. This demo gives you 2 levels to play with and you can choose which level you want to play from the main menu. Each level maybe lasts 15-20 minutes depending on how much you explore (don't expect Oblivion-type open lands though). For a console port (this is an Xbox360 game), it is very well done. You getting keyboard, audio and graphics options from the main menu. The advanced options allow you to specify multi-GPU (for SLi/CrossFire rigs) and multi-threading for dual-cores (ingame option is called Concurrent Operations). Max resolution is limited and could not go for the 20" widescreen resolution of 1680x1050. The ratio was also a little whacky so I just settled for the default 1280x720 which looks good anyway. There's a Performance Test option where it will runs through the first level of the game and show you the average FPS based on the graphic settings you set. At maximum resolution and settings (including AA and AF), I got around 7-9fps on the 8800GTS. At default settings and res, about 40-50fps. The controls are nice and so is gameplay. There's a little bit of non-linearity when it comes to battles and you can choose how and where you want to fight the 10-foot 200 ton alien. Plenty of mean looking aliens to kill, plenty of weapons to choose from - you can only carry 2 at a time. Interesting gameplay elements e.g. digging the snow to find hidden stuff, collecting thermal energy dropped by aliens to keep yourself warm (translates to extra hitpoints in the game), and other cool action stuff you need to experience for yourself. More info as I do more, ahem... testing. I never did manage to survive the entire first mission. UPDATE: tweakguides.com came out with some nice screens comparing DX9 and DX10. ZipD, you play this demo on Vista right?
I play DX9 version on Windows XP using 158.22 ForceWare driver. I can't play the demo games, aside from performance test. The game will randomly freeze in any part of demo game. sometimes it will run without a hitch, somtimes it will freeze and force me to Alt-Tab back to desktop. Maybe the drivers on Windows XP has an issue, do you encounter this on Vista DX10 demo? |

Its quite disheartening to see my 7800GT slowly curling up and die amidst all this next gen stuff. I bought a high end GC for it to last at least 3-4 years!

Cool.. it looks like theres a 'built-in' benchmark?..
*downloading now* Hopefully its a solid port... considering Capcom are "known" for $@#% up ports... Unlike SEGA Cheers This post has been edited by TomatomanzSeedlezz: May 17 2007, 03:51 PM |

this game is insane, just playing it for 10 minutes on default, the GC's temp gone up to 63C, the highest record in among all the games that I played so far
the game is playable at 1280*960, on default and no AA at all... it has obvious frame lost when applying 4xAA now I know that DX10 games will fire up ur card ![]() ![]() later try out the DX9 demo... think it will not stress the card that much This post has been edited by dattebayo: May 17 2007, 04:55 PM |

i was blown away by the intensity of this game. the pirate battle at the end is just awesome. looks almost realistic really. wow.. this game loooks cool but i read the game review a few months back and its not too good... maybe its the control. i cant wait for this game... the demo is just not enough!
so anyway.. set everything to default and ran the bench again. suprisingly only the snow stage improved from my high setting test (71FPS). the cave demo still stuck at 41 FPS... thats only 3 FPS better than 1600x100 on max setting... CAPCOM better tweak this game before release. i dont want to suffer like i suffered playing Splinter Cell Double Agent!! This post has been edited by obefiend: May 17 2007, 10:12 PM |

The gameplay is cool. I believe we could get the entirely picture of the story in the actual game rather than this pure killing slashing demo.
The physics inside the game is totally mind blowing. The bullets decals are realistic and most of the items are explosive, for effect wise i guess. The game requires more tweaking and tweaking and tweaking , i don't think 8800 series could be that overwhelmed by this game. If you guys have noticed, turning the Effect Resolution inside the game from High to Low gives the highest FPS boost. It makes your screen goes a little bit blur when facing some light source . I wonder what it really does anyway. Well, the crosshair control inside the game actually sucks. You'll feel the delay of the shifting of crosshair even at 40 fps. And, can we have a radar ? Wouldn't it make things a lot easier? |

QUOTE(RevolutionWorks @ May 17 2007, 10:37 PM) Still experience random freeze after updating to DirectX 9 April 2007 update. Seems the driver for Windows XP has the problem~ T__T Excellent tip RW, this allowed me to run dx9 demo perfectly. I had the same problem as you when I tried the DX9 version. I was testing the DX9 demo on Vista, very frequent hangs (alt-tabbing out the desktop shows that the gfx driver had 'stopped responding'). The same goes to XP, hanging every 2-3 seconds. But only the game does that, the OS itself is ok so can still alt-tab out and end task the game. Well, the game doesn't hang permanently though, it freezes for 5 seconds and the game's renderer will try to recover itself but after it does, it starts freezing again. edit: Yay~! seems this driver fixed the freeze issue:Forceware Windows XP 160.02 WHQL on Guru3D.com Its for Quadro, but support all cards from FX series. and now I can enjoy the demo~ I tested the 'Windows XP 160.02 WHQL' drivers RW mentioned and it fixed my XP issue. However, I didn't try the Vista version of the drivers. Impressions on DX9 version: 1. I had lots more fps in DX9 than with the same settings in DX10. The game is smoother, faster and slightly more responsive. 2. I noticed that in DX10 version, there was another resolution you could set besides the maximum of 1280x960 in DX9. In DX10, I could go one more step higher which is 1360x<somereswhichiforgot>. I think it's for HD. Then again, you could customize your settings to whatever resolution by editing the config.ini 3. There wasn't any visible motion blur in the DX9 version. Unlike what I saw in the screen caps from tweakguides.com. I tested both DX9 and DX10 versions using 'Default' graphical settings. IIRC, the settings were exactly the same. 4. Water definitely looked better in the DX10 version. |
