Hi guys,
Can you recommend a good router with decent wifi coverage and good stability ? I am currently using Unifi Archer C5. Wifi coverage is within my acceptable range. The only thing is after upgrading to 50 Mbps, speed has been pretty unstable. I have read quite some good reviews of ASUS RT-AC68U. Just that i find that it comes with a lot of extra features eg QoS, VPN etc which i most probably wont be needing it. So not sure whether its worth paying so much extras for features that i dont require. Any recommendation from sifus out there ?

I've been using RT-AC68U for 4 years and it's still a very reliable router when compared to other brands I've used before It doesn't matter if you don't use QOS or VPN, it's just extra features
Unlike other brands, you will get ASUS firmware updates almost every month unlike TP-Link or D-Link where you won't get firmware updates even once a year and had to suffer the bugs through all that times
But my advise is to wait for RT-AC86U to be available in Malaysia for so you can enjoy MU-MIMO

May be I wasn't keeping a close eyes on things but I didn't notice anything dramatically different. Or may be it's just me.

I tested TP-Link Archer AC3200 before. Still like my Asus RT-AC68U more - fast, stable and super strong wifi.

5ghz band would be useful not just for unifi network but also when moving files around other devices using wifi.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Oct 20 2017, 02:25 AM) do i need to be concerned some of my devices will not work with 5ghz? Yes, some might not work but if it’s a PC or laptop, it’s easily solved by getting a USB wifi adapter that can support AC. If it’s a mobile that does not support 5GHz, nothing you can do about it.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Oct 20 2017, 09:18 AM) a couple of them a bit old... will check. Nothing to worry about. Even if it doesn't support 5GHz, you can still rely on 2.4GHz for older devices But some old devices are still capable of supporting 5GHz. For example, my old Galaxy Note 1 & Galaxy S2 I don't use them anymore, just telling you that some old devices are fully capable of connecting to 5GHz band

Yes. But a device can connect to either the 2.4Ghz band or 5Ghz band. You can have both WiFi bands enabled, it won't have any impact on the router.

Yes, if a device can support both, it will show both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz connection. Just get a dual band router. They’re not that expensive and you will be happy that you get them.
