Hi guys, wanna get some suggestions.

Background :-
1. I bought a S7 Edge last year Oct from a Lowyat forum's seller.
2. The seller got the phone from Maxis with 2 years contract.
3. Recently about 3 weeks ago, the phone get blocked.
4. I went to Maxis and found out there is outstanding RM2k++ hence they blocked the phone (IMEI).

Now :-
1. Contacted the original seller and he said he will clear with Maxis (already 2 weeks+ and i guess he will just ignore me).
2. I am using DIGI sim card the phone also not working.

Suggestions needed:-
1. Anything I can do now?
a. On the seller
b. On Maxis

2. Anyway to unblock the phone?

Dont think u can unblock the phone..

U just got urself an expensive paper weight...

Maybe u can report police that he scammed you?

1. Can be used overseas
2. S7 touch wifi
3. Sell as parts

Sigh, I think these days it's no longer safe to buy 2nd hand phone after IMEI banning. It does not really solve the problem, but cause more problems IMHO - buyer of 2nd hand phone punished too when the first purchaser defaults on his payment.

try other carrier or sell to singapore

IMHO reporting to police won't change anything as the seller did sell you a working phone during the time of the purchase.

You need to pressure the seller to settle his bill.

there is nothing you can do with Maxis, since the contract is not under you. They have the right to block phones that are under their contract if the contract person do not pay. You can only convince the owner to pay up, or that phone is a useless piece now.

aren't IMEI blocking is for theft only? this is an abuse of facility.

original owner signed a contract with Maxis already.

If they don't pay the bill maxis have the right to block the phone.

If i'm not mistaken Sim2 still can be used.

Blocking the phone imei accomplishes nothin. The contract holder can easily sell off the phone and get away Scott free. This will only cause future buyers to avoid buying phone from the carrier as they can easily block you for whatever reasons.

Probably Cannot based on faq about Imei blocking service for malaysia it say

incidences like this will discourage second hand phone buying. bad apple sellers like this are destroying the market.

Pay the bill n call maxis to unblock

Why don't you change your IMEI number?

Get someone to change the IMEI. Usually need to change the motherboard.

Imagine if you buy a used phone (that cost >500) that was offered free with contract, and the fella never paid the bill. Really sucks!

Thanks to this thread now I've avoided Telco set like mad. Rather pay more to buy retail set.

my iphone blocked by Celcom, twice ( mid Oct 2018 and Now ), still under contract & insurance, no defaults payment, the 1st one they said technical issue, and now still investigate, my contracts left few months.

October case took 4 days to unblock my IMEI, Celcom customer service advised me to bring device to Apple service centre to check(nothing wrong), call help line put on hold until I dont want to wait anymore.

I realise after inserted my SG sim card and its work, Reported to MCMC, they said only Celcom can unblock my IMEI. I cannot make call nor receive call, I miss important call & emergency call, waste time of my life and keeps counting.

no compensate from Celcom for my loss, I will port out once my contracts end. Hope my experience will help you to buy phone from Celcom.
