Dear all,

Am considering either of the above cars.
Both are at the same price point (VW giving more year end rebates) despite the Passat being a D segment vs the civic's C segment.

Civic comes with more electronic bells and whistles
Entry level passat quite basic interior
One is a Conti car the other is a Japanese
Passat carries 10 more horsepower

Passat has the infamous dry dual clutch DSG..... supposedly issues of leak and part failure already fixed.

Which would YOU choose and WHy?

Help me decide which to buy icon_question.gif

Civic spare parts cheaper, more aftermarket parts, and looks better.

I heard the dry clutch and mechatronic issue is slightly reduced, doesn't mean entirely fixed, better stay away from it, unless is wet clutch.

If I'm wrong, then all the way to conti because the driving experience is totally difference, as long as you expect the RV is much lower compare to Civic.

None, coz the VW is unreliable with bad SC while the Civic is just boring with the CVT and looks like a riceboy car.

can only say if you want to buy VW 7 speed dry. be very prepared to lose over 70% of your value in 5 years.

That is, your car will only be worth around 45 to 50k in about 4 to 5 years... unless you manage to get it at 110k or 120k then that's a different story.

I think Passat costs at least RM30k more than the Civic T after rebate.

You may wan to consider Jetta instead as there's low interest promo now for the comfort spec I think.

Rm1180 for 9 years for the jetta vs rm1485 for Civic 9 years

In terms of performance both are similar. Comfort and nvh both similar also

If you want a Passat get the 2.0 wet clutch and drive it for a long time. Otherwise get the Jetta Comfortline dry clutch. It will be cheaper than the Civic and you don't lose as much in RV as the Passat. Be prepared for more maintenance but it is more fun to drive and considering that you can save as much as RM40K over the Civic I'm sure you can put up with a bit of hassle.

you may consider Jetta Highline, if you just plan to take Passat Trendline.
just go test both, and decide...
you are the one who will drive it..

Another question for vw model. Please do research for maintenance price for normal service. It comes pricey at 60k and 120k.

3-4k for 120k km I consider expensive

Civic for sure. VW is confirm 100% will have problem when u need the car the most. Avoid VW no matter what ppl say and what warranty they give. In most cases, its useless .

U will regret for sure if get Jetta. Looks good on paper. Its cheap but be prepared for tons of problems. VW are hopelessly unreliable. Anyway, the jetta looks so outdated la side by side with the Civic

Pls listen to an ex GTI Mk6 and Polo Tsi owner.

So much of concern and worried in your statement. Better of with Japanese cars.

Plus if you wanna drive a conti. You need the have a conti mindset.things are not cheap. But you pay for what you get.

Civic. It's a safe buy. Plus cheaper. And you may have more friends driving one. Every corner you see the civic.
Boring is one thing. But at least any problems occur you not the only one.

Can you tell me what kind of problem you encounter on the GTI MK6? Don't get me wrong, just for study purposes.

GTi
Engine leak oil
Coolant leak - repaired but came back again n again.
Ignition coil died

Polo
Engine light keep coming out
Turbocharger spoil. Since it spoil, engine goes into safe mode. So no matter how hard u press, u cant activate the turbo. So it was like driving a 1.2 NA car.
Car absorber gave way for no reason. Had to change it.

The problem with VW is that the problems keep coming bck no matter how many times u repair them. So yea, thats the VW story.

No more VW for me.

why not wait for the 10th gen accord? you'll get the good ends of both worlds:

the reliability of japs + decent 1.5L turbo power + D-segment comfort + better RV

Just have to wait another 9 months probably

Design is sink or swim to most people however. I personally dig it
