Charles tried to outbrake Stroll but he can't be expecting the AM to disappear. Alonso is to the right of Stroll and he's basically sandwiched between his team mate and a Ferrari. The moment he turned into Stroll, he already done a big mistake.

In comparison, Sainz had all the space to his right but still outbrake himself into the side of Alonso. Fully deserved a penalty. I want to say he probably shouldn't get the penalty since the lap didn't count but he caused such a big carnage for the rest of the pack, probably justified to be penalized.

Sky did a close-up on Sainz steering input after the race. Sainz already turned his steering but his Ferrari is still going straight into Alonso. Colder tyres because they had to do half a lap behind SC and also it's 5pm in Australia like Max explained in the interview most probably played a big role there. I think the stewards probably already looked into all aspects before dishing out the penalty. I think Sainz like GR was undone by the red flag but that's the thing about F1 nowadays. Unpredictable decisions. He probably felt he deserved a higher finish but luck wasn't on his side today.
