Wolff points finger at ‘certain members’ for Ferrari plight

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has branded Ferrari’s 2020 performances as “not good enough for Formula 1”, adding that “certain members of the team” are to blame.

There is no denying that 2020 has been a difficult season for the Scuderia.

After making positive strides towards Mercedes at the front during 2019 and collecting three race wins, this year the team have been relegated to fighting in the midfield.

But during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix, the same place where the team secured a front row lockout last year, Charles Leclerc managed only P13 with Sebastian Vettel set to start P14.

It’s a new low point in an already dismal season for Ferrari, and Wolff isn’t happy to see “certain members of the team” dragging their rival well down below the fight at the top.

Ferrari is an iconic brand and they should be racing at the very front,” he told Motorsport-Magazin.com.

“It’s not good for Formula 1, it’s not good for the competition at the front.

“I very much feel with all the Tifosi and employees of Ferrari for this lack of performance.

“At the end one must question the priorities that have been set in recent times and where the lack of performance comes from. But overall nobody from the fans and Ferrari deserve such a result.

“It’s wrong to say ‘Ferrari priorities’, because that drags Ferrari and everybody in Ferrari into this. It’s maybe the decisions that have been made within the team, from certain members of the team.”

And the situation shows little sign of improving fast with Ferrari targetting 2022 under the new regulations as the stage where the team can look to be competitive again.

After dragging the SF1000 to only P13 on the grid, Leclerc had no explanation for the lack of performance and expressed his sympathy for the fans.

“To be honest it’s very difficult to find an explanation,” he told Sky F1.

“It’s a big step back from the others so we need to try and find the main issue to address it.

“It’s not a good day, but it’s like this at the moment so we need to keep working very hard, I think everyone in the team needs to keep their heads up even though it’s very difficult in times like this.

Traxx FM DJ even spent 5 mins explaining the Belgian GP practice sessions yesterday. How come F1 suddenly become a thing in 2020 on local media? Hmmm...
