Hi All,

Im currently looking for SUV and tempted for X1, main reason is due to BMW and want to drive at least once while im still young. My budget is around 130k and used X1 is within the budget. As usual, main concern is the maintenance cost after purchase.

A lil bit of my background:-

Finance: Making 9.1k net and currently after deduct all my expenses, house loan, etc , im saving 4.5k monthly.
Current car: Driving 9 yrs old Vios.

Looking at carlist, 2015 X1 sold at 120k which is within my range. Not too sure if the advertise price is correct as im notice older car is more expensive than this 1?

https://www.carlist.my/used-cars/2015-bmw-x...gh-spec/3890614

If i standby rm 300 monthly as a maintenance fees, is it sufficient to maintain a 2015 BMW X1 ?

Is it worth to go for to get used 2014/2015 BMW X1 ?

Need all sifus advise.

Thanks in advance

the car will cost about 1.6 or 1.8k monthly depending on interest rate

add up maintenance - probably 500 a month for maintennace and another 100-150 bucks for road tax and insurance, can expect to pay around 2.5k a month

From your salary you can get a new one and not worry about the maintenance.

500 per month even for 2015 car? Kinda pricy..hmm

As for monthly payment, i plan to fork out 50k as down payment, so probably less than 1k for 7 yrs loan. But 500 per mth for maintenance , mind to list out a breakdown? thx in adv

Old and new is a totally dif experience! I would say it's quite a chore to maintain a used conti unless you have good lobangs on parts and workshops! The current X1 is quite a nice car , maybe you can look around for pre-reg unit! They are still with warranty!

actually your salary you can afford brand new one, just as long as you dont have many mouth to feed under your care but

it seems like you dont want to suffer from price depreciation, well good for you then. go for it
*
yea, you are right, i try to avoid the price depreciation.

At the same time, trying to avoid the maintenance headache rclxub.gif

Hi, im also considering the current X1 but a used one as a brand new one is off my budget.
I was actually tempted to buy CX5 diesel but the SA told me have to wait 3 to 6 months and I m a little dissapointed now. So now im considering the next best alternative.
I love driving, so the car must have good driving dynamics.
If u were me, would u guys give up waiting for CX5 and go for BMW X1 instead?

If I were u, keep the Vios around as backup. Contis tend to break down without warning based on experience. Warranty coverage for used very sketchy. Ensure the previous owner serviced the car regularly otherwise will have trouble claiming later. That's what happened to my 3008. Previous owner skipped 2-3 service intervals. Warranty voided despite having another 2 years to go. Insist on inspecting the service book before committing.

Also, having an insurance coverage with nationwide towing service is a must. I had great experience with Kurnia after my 3008 broke down in Pagoh. Waited 2 hours before towing it back to Setia Alam. Best part? FOC. Only need to pay for toll charges. Gave the driver some pocket money for late dinner. And like many, luckily I kept my 2005 Naza Sorento around as backup. The repairs took over 2 weeks.

As with any conti, please standby some cash also. Easily RM 15-20K easy. U never know. First to go are the sensors - anything from O2 to water temp. Sometimes ABS will go wonky. This is due to dirty ABS sensors. May not apply to BMW but in general conti sensors very sensitive to heat and dirt unlike Japanese or Korean cars.

Lastly, this applies for older BMWs using Peugeot engine. Stay away! The Prince EP6 engine is highly unreliable. If u want to spend 10-15K easily, then please ignore my advice.

Well if u ask me, CX5 is the next best thing for driver like to drive a lot.. well CRV is all rounder but CX5 has its own pros n con..

especially diesel engine.. the new one is improve a lot compare previous model on its refinement, even my mum currently using previous model tempting wanna change to the new one (but i'm not recommend as now financial quite unstable)

Old model drive superbly, exceed most SUV and its handling perform similar as sedan car.. 2.0 model the engine quite noisy maybe its skyactiv engine nature on the outside, inside all silent.. but road noise and wind noise are noticable for previous model..
With diesel engine u got torquy engine with good fuel consumption.. test drive it and u will be amaze bro..
The inside for new one very premium, all soft touch with nice leather.. older model the leather is not that soft.. with CBU for diesel model, its better then CKD for fit n finish..

You must test drive yourself to get the best experience for both, I never own cx5 before, but people said Mazda is 'Oriental BMW' (direct translate), means as good as BMW.

I owned 1 local, 1 jap and 2 conti cars, I enjoy a lot on the conti especially the handling, but I know the maintenance will be high, and you must expect it.

Strongly suggest if you can go for the F48 instead of E84.

You will be covered by 5 years BSRI and warranty, it is more hassle free experience. Not to say the B48 engine is also way better than the N20 in the facelifted E84.

300 a month to maintain a used BMW is definitely not enough, I would suggest you to spare 10k-15k aside for repairs during the first few years of ownership. It depends on how good the previous owner maintain the car.

Mazda CX-5 indeed is having pretty good handling, not sure for the new generation since I have not tested it. But the previous CX-5 is still a distance compared to the handling of the F48 although both are FWD. Not able to provide any comment on E84 as I have not tested it before. The biggest advantage of CX-5 is it is a Jap and maintenance is "predictable" and it is a brand new car coming with warranty.

check the warranty period, older ones has 2 (!) years warranty
it has since been extended to 5 years, but i can't recall when the change happened
new BMW usually has some form of service/maintenance package baked into the purchase. when the warranty was 2 years, it was for 2 years.
Now it should be 5 years
do check if the unit that you are checking out has the 2 or 5 year warranty
