Lets say if I got a motherboard with FSB 1066 Mhz and Ram with 1066 mhz .If maximun load will it utilized max 1066 ?
If FSB 1066 Mhz can utilized 800 mhz of ram ?

What about laptop ? Will it be the same ?

If C2D T5300 1.73Ghz with 533mhz FSB and T5500 1.66 Ghz and 667 mhz FSB , can both of them ultilized 533 Mhz of Ram ?

well.. lets do some calculation

intel FSB at 1066Mhz ( actually its 266mhz quadpump) at 64bit = ~8.5GB per sec (not including overheads)

so, the base clock is 266mhz-QDR

so we can use DDR2-533 (which runs at 266mhz) x 64bit = ~4.2GB per sec (not including overheads) x 2(dual channel) = ~8.4GB per sec

well.. something like that la

sorry not quite understand icon_question.gif

So if I buy a new laptop which is 533mhz T5300 1.73Ghz (133 mhz for quadpump at 64bit) I don't know how many GB per sec.
What about 32 bits ? icon_question.gif

Really confuse... so does that mean no matter my ram is 533mhz or 667 mhz , I still cannot ultilized fully using a FSB 667 mhz ?

The 32 bits isn't related to the Operating system, it's the amount of bits in the memory interface, and in the case of dual channel operation, since each channel is 32 bits and you have 2, you have 64bits of parallel bandwidth.

When manufacturers says your ram is 533 or 667 mhz, in reality, you'll only getting half the real speed. They list it as 533, because DDR operates on the rising and falling tides of the clock, essentially 2 operations per clock, so in reality, a 667mhz ram is only operating at 333 mhz, and thus only a processor with 1333 FSB (667x2) can take advantage of it.

Remember you have 3 frequencies here
1) Base frequency, being 200, 266, 333.
2) Effective Frequencies, being 400, 533, 667 (Usually the DDR rating)
3) Compensated FSB rating, being 800, 1066, 1333

Thus before you ask any question, which one is your 800 mhz ram rated in? the 2nd frequency or the 3rd?

^ one memory channel is generally 64bits. dual channel is 128bits.

I plan to buy a laptop and I don't know which one I should upgrade , FSB the processor speed T5300 533 mhz or T5500 667 mhz Or the ddr2 ram 553mhz or 667mhz.
List of Intel Duo 2 Core
If even T5500 667 mhz also can't fully utilize the peak of 533mhz , I'll only upgrade the processor.

I'll make it simple 4 u. We'll do away wif as much technicalities as possible.

A substanstial boost of b/width be it for CPU FSB, RAM or HDD interface doesn't give u a proportionate boost in sys. performance...

eg. When dual channel DDR[1] RAM was 1st introduced, it doubles d RAM b/width, but end result of gives an onli ~ +10% overall sys. performance boost. blink.gif

So,
RAM (dual channel) = RAM (single ch) b/width x2, BUT
≠RAM (single ch) throughput x2 (performance), however. cry.gif In reality,
= RAM (single ch) throughput 1.3 ~ 1.5x onli!

Same goes for:-
CPU FSB eg. 533->667 (+25%) ≠+25% CPU performance, BUT onli very slight, say, ~1-3%

So, dun bother too much of b/width vs performance issue.
Use COST vs performance as a better yardstick & simplicity. thumbup.gif

Re: CPU
If I were u, I'd take d T5500 AS LONG AS it cost ~5%-10% onli more. icon_idea.gif
It's usually better 2 hav more > less, regardless we need it or not simply bcoz we humans r greedy!!! drool.gif

Re: RAM
As 4 d RAM, if u r getting a laptop wif integrated (on-chipset) graphics, then I'd reckon DDR2-667 instead as diz give a marginal boost 2 gfx performance. icon_idea.gif

But since d price DDR2-533 vs 667, is almost no difference, it would be better 2 take DDR2-667! brows.gif

It's juz like if a 40Gb HDD cost RM150 & 160Gb cost RM190, obviously u'd take d 160Gb handsdown REGARDLESS u need it or not, simply it's a better value! laugh.gif

Hopes diz helps u in yr decision. Is u need more info, get back 2 diz thread. icon_rolleyes.gif

watcher thank you so much for your information biggrin.gif
Upgrade from T5300 to T5500 is Rm143 and ram 1 GB 533mhz to 1 GB 667mhz is Rm71.
I may consider upgrading if the performances such as opening program microsoft word , excel , msn ,watch some dvd movie increase 15% to 25% faster.
Btw , I am using xp not vista.
