KLPF07 stage sucks ! not high enough, got backlight and it's so cramp !!! photog squeezed like sardine...
*
on the contrary...i think the backlight makes the pictures turn out more unique..and subjects much well-defined..if shot at a proper angle..

It's very rare that photographers are being positive nowadays. After a shoot they just love to compare from venue to venue and see which shooting condition is good and which ones are bad. Like joonjian said, we can always use the bad lighting to our advantage. The matter is, newbies complaining about bad/low lighting is because they dunno how to adjust their camera to the shooting condition and MOSTLY becoz they cannot cope with low shutter speed, that's ALL.

Remember this ... when you look into your viewfinder, it's only between YOU and the SUBJECT. If you think you cannot squeeze into a crowd, just pack up your gear and chow. Sometimes I look at crowd character : you see those buggers squeezing in there with their DSLRs, compact digicams, handphones, etc. I will back-off. You're looking at a bunch of 'sakais', dun bother even TRYING to get a good shot.

Dun let me start on 'crowd character' ... I've seen all kinds in KL, from fashion shows to product launches to model parades in shopping malls, those in car exhibition and product fairs is even worst sometimes!

I always think of photography as a challenge where you work out the problems and settings to get the shots that you want.

Anyway, Travis, 1 picture that I managed to take before I left the mob. rclxub.gif

The portrait is not sharp and OOF due to low shutter speed at telephoto focal length. Composition could be better to include all of her head and her right arm.

Some comments.

WB is quite warm but I think it's normal due to those bloody spotlights. mad.gif

You should use higher shutter speed to stop the model's motion. There are some blurred shots. Bump up the ISO and get at least 1/200s shutter speed.

Thanks for sharing.

Actually you can work around those, try giving advice in the future instead of just comments and critics.

yeh man...exactly my point. photographers shouldn't be too stereotype and think that good pictures can only come from default lighting. being flexible and experimenting with new angles and settings is what makes photography a creative hobby in the first place.

Thanks for ur advise, this is some feedback i need.

Nothing can be done on the lighting, if u lucky u can geta good shot, but if the spotlight turned in a wrong timing, then too bad then. I was using appreture priority and most of the pics taken during the esprit shoot were below 1/100s and only a few is above 1/100s. Looks like putting 1/200s will be under my consideration in my next fashion shoot.

As what ac98 wanted to be, i wanted to be less reliant to PS and more reliant to shooting skills. I will only use PS if i really messed up my shots or adding watermark. Btw i using ACD See PhotoManager, not PS tongue.gif

Time for the next installment:

Pavillon fashion show: VOL 2: Coast

These pics were taken with my 1st attempt using the SB600 speedlite. I not so sure if the bounce really works on the stage where the silling is 6 stories high. Guess that why there a use of white cardboards to bounce.
