Hi, I just made an online reservation for a return flight between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. I accidentally reversed the guest's first & last name during the booking. Will that be an issue when checking in both airports in Bangkok and later in Kuala Lumpur? Thank you for the clarification.

You can call the airlines hotline to request for ammendment, as long as belum check in. I did. And MAS says names must be exact as passport, so change is required. I was trying to avoid any potential fees. I read similar posts on Tripadvisor and many reported no issues on other international airports. Can anyone give insights to the general response of the ground staff in Suvarnabhumi & KLIA pertaining to this issue? I think you misunderstood. To clarify - I mean, call MAS to ask them change the sequence of names for the reservation made. If you ask them to change passenger name, they will not. But to change the sequence should be okay. If my memory serves me well, my friend did call them to change because during online booking, her hubby did not enter the name in correct sequence. I have heard people saying first name and last name sequence doesnt matter as long as the full name are same as per in passport.
but i think to be safe, better change la..since its really up to the particular ground staff that do the checking..not how the overall country airport works.
and swapping the sequence is not that hard.

why worry?
Malaysia passport dont even have a "Surname" or "Given Name" column inside the passport.
Look at Malay name. Whichever way they book, they can go thru check-in counter without any issue.
Example : Mohamad Ali Bin Ismail
You can booked ticket any way you like (All no problem) A) Surname : Mohamad Given Name : Ali Bin Ismail
B) Surname : Ismail Given Name : Mohamad Ali Bin
C) Surname : Ismail Given Name : Mohamad Ali

I remember I booked flight for my friend who is (example) Sarah Tan Wei Wei. I asked the airline on how to fill in Last Name and Given Name. Last Name: Tan Given Name : Sarah Wei Wei or Wei Wei Sarah, both also can. According to them, as long as all your passport name is in there. No extra, no missing. But I believe Wei Sarah Wei is wrong lah.. This post has been edited by lowlowc: Oct 28 2017, 08:08 PM
