perhaps holding the button longer is better, not depressing and let go a few times.

I'm not very sure. I also had a hard time setting my clock with my 6850.
I think you should turn off the HU then go to options and change |

press the swich off ,switch 5 second to off then press and hold when in off mode for time setting

the volume button,push it and hold until the headunit switch off,then push back the volume button and hold until see the clock setting option after that use arrow key to set the clock.
