Well I don't know what to recommend as I think most new laptops are terrible unless you're willing to pay a lot.

Anyway, No.1 thing to do is to avoid laptops with only HDD (hard disk drive). These are slow and even though eMMC isn't much faster, it's a lot more durable.

If your school work is just typing up Microsoft Word / Google Doc documents then a sub-MYR1000 laptop should be fine however if you plan to use Microsoft Publisher or Adobe Photoshop, be prepared to suffer slow downs.

I personally used a Asus EeeBook X205TA, a 11.6" MYR1000 laptops for around two years and I highly do not recommend it.
