hey guys, not sure if this is the thread to ask... but here it goes...

my family 2008 civic 1.8 suddenly occasionally engine cannot start on first or 2nd try, need repeat baru can start. battery level is good.

it happens sometimes only, like once in 2 days or 3 days. what's the possible culprit?

If battery is good, Civic's fuel pump failure is pretty notorious. Are you by chance a Shell user? Specifically 97?

shell 95 only .... oh my, really hope not fuel pump, sounds expensive sad.gif

bangwall.gif sorry bro I wasn't aware of the 2008, thought I saw 2018!
Uhh, if can't start... depend on the sound... but if your car is 2008, might be other potentials. I mean, car is old so... not surprising if other components are faulty.

workshop mechanic say is "gear position sensor". further googling reveal it might be called transmission position sensor / transmission range switch / park neutral switch.

he wanna charge RM500+ for the parts to be shipped to east malaysia here. and I totally not sure which part will work from lazada. dayum....

ps: there's a video on youtube showing a honda with this occasional no start symptom, he said is this transmission range switch thing.

Hey dude. I had this issue when I was driving my FD2. Normally just have to wiggle your gear around while starting the car. I learned to live with it for 4 years. Sometimes it doesn’t even detect any gears, when is when I pull up the flap above the gearbox and push in with a screwdriver to release the lock. Sorry I don’t have pics anymore, but I hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the info mate.
