Just want to share something that I think most did not notice and Honda Malaysia didn’t state as a difference in the brochure too...

I noticed that for tcp, it comes with an extra speaker / woofer behind the back seats where there was supposed to be a 3rd brake light (for the lower specs). That space is made redundant as tcp comes with a spoiler with 3rd brake light.

Nothing important but I thought it might be useful to some.

By the way, one feedback I got from watching reviews online was that the lanewatch can be annoying when you’re mirroring Waze from your phone. As it’s not snappy enough, it takes a second for the monitor to switch to lanewatch and you’d lose the navigation, and then it takes a while to switch back after you’re done switching lane. Any real life experience in this?

My other concern is the steering wheel autocorrect when it perceives that I’m driving out of lane. How does the sensing know whether it’s intentional or not? What if I’m trying to avoid a pothole and then it pushes me back? =_=

Thank you for your feedback 0501024.

The one feature I would definitely value from sensing is the auto brake to mitigate the impact upon incoming crash. Not that I would depend on it but having a backup can’t be a bad thing. It seems that the other features can be quite a pain in the arse....

Need to think twice before I make the plunge...

I have a few questions, hope sifu’s here can help.
1. Can the different features under Honda sensing be switched on/off individually? Just now I read one comment, someone said he would opt for top spec and switch off the LKAS.
2. Has anyone compared the ride the civic between Pre- and -Post Facelift? I’m specifically interested in the NVH, is there an improvement?
3. The 18” rims look nice but I just can’t tell if it affects the comfort much. My understanding is that the bigger the rims, the harsher the ride but also more grip / better handling in this case. 215/50R17 vs 235/40ZR18 translates into tyre thickness of 107.5mm vs 94mm. Does the bigger rim in this case affects the ride comfort much compared to the 17” rims? Are there better tires (In terms of comfort/quietness) than Michelin Pilot Sport?

I’m accustomed to golf TSI mk6. Lately I test drove the new Passat Elegance and I was disappointed with the ride comfort and NVH, the drivetrain is not my priority but the power delivery was also a let down (even on Sports mode) although the numbers look okay on paper.

I have driven the Pre-FL version Civic twice before. But Honda sales people somehow never let me take the car for a meaningful spin so I could never push it past 70 km/h let alone 110 to have a feel of the ride stability and NVH....

Thank you all in advance.

The model you drove is the 2.0 TSI? And the power delivery is a let down hmm.gif  hmm.gif  I know the engine is slightly detuned but... still. At least I'm pretty sure civic FL doesn't have the top speed to match, from experience from pre-FL civic FC has a speed cut at 203kmh.

I am driving just the 1.4 TSI. It might be surprising to some, but I really felt that the Passat Elegance is overly tamed and held back all the time. Even when I switched to Sports mode it did not help. That’s just how I felt. It may be just that the power delivery is more linear and refined. 1.4 Mk6 isn’t as polished/refined so the power comes in a gush. For reference in terms of 0-100 km/h time needed: Golf TSI MK6 and Civic Gen X around the same at 8.0-8.1 sec, Passat Elegance at 7.7 sec even though the torque are far apart (240/220 NM vs 320NM).

I’m not trashing the Passat. I just didn’t know where VW intended to position this car. Not much thrill driving it, and less comfortable compared to Jap counterparts. Maybe I had too high an expectation. I entered mid-30’s and I suddenly realized that I became sensitive to characteristics of cars (when I was younger I just drove my Myvi around happily). Now I might have become overly critical after having driven a wide range of cars over the years (Vellfire during my brother’s wedding, to small cars like City, to Beemers).

And it’s a curse because times are bad and I absolutely do not want to buy an expensive car just for it to depreciate quickly. So Civic is my best bet now. Are there any test drive units available yet...?

Hi Sifu’s

I am still undecided between TC and TC-P, and I can’t decide between white and grey as well.

Can you please give a bit of pointers/comments on my concerns below?

1. I like the larger and darker rims but fear the harsher ride. Does the ride really become harsher?

2. Grey looks a bit understated (which I like, lower profile) and easy to maintain. White has better contrast with the dark rims and black grill but hard to maintain and looks a bit Lala-zai (no ill feelings to existing owners, i like this colour too)

3. Can each of the 8 features under Honda sensing be switched on/off individually?

4. The price difference between the 2 models is about RM 10k. How much would it cost for me to upgrade each of the following items after market?
a) Spoiler (this doesn’t do much for me)
b) black grill - I like
c) swapping the rims to original Honda 18” rims with tires
Actually just want to roughly see how much HM is charging for the Honda Sensing. That way, even if I don’t feel very in need of it I might still be able to convince myself to just take the top spec.

Many thanks!

Does installing sway bars and strut bars void the warranty? Thanks.

Has anyone here happened to have compared the ride comfort and NVH between civic FL 1.5 tcp and Passat Elegance?

Thanks.

I test drove the 1.5 TCP over the weekend.
The ride was quite a bit harsher than the pre-FL version in my memory. Likely due to the larger rim and 235/40 tyre profile.

There’s also a slight turbo lag without much Omph, perhaps the acceleration is too linear under the CVT.

Very torn now, must I go into the shrinking D-segment... And D-segment cars are so much more expensive.
