Hi. I'm intending to do a vasectomy.

Im hoping for some suggestions preferably by those who have already done the procedure.

1. Which hospital/doctor?
2. Cost?
3. Consultation process (how many appointments, any tests to go through first, length of procedure)

I understand the sensitivity of the topic but my wife and I are decided. Please don't ask why... smile.gif
Would appreciate you avoid leaving comments if you don't have any information to share on the topic smile.gif hope you understand.

I'd like to keep this thread as informative for other people's benefit smile.gif

Thanks in advance.

There are 2 options you can choose, basiclly through General Hospital or Private Hospital. Going through government hospital, the time & process are more time consuming but the advantage will be on the cost ( basically it was heavily subsidized by KKM ). Going throught the private hospital, the waiting time was short but it will definetely cost more. I tried to go through the Government Hospital but something happened halfway, hence I decided to switch to the private hospital.

For the government hosital:-

1) You need to go to the nearby Klinik Kesihatan to get the letter of recommendation to the General Hospital. During the meet up with the doctor on duty, notify your intention to perform the procedure. The doctor will interview you, brief you on the factual information related to the procedure & ensure that you are making the well informed decision before issuing you the letter of recommendation. ( 1 working day gone coz KK only opens on weekdays).

2) You need to take the letter of recomendation to the General Hospital of your preference ( check if the Hospital have the Urologist Department), I went to Selayang Hospital. When you reach the Hospital, you need to get the date of the appointment to see the Urologist ( Specialist) .( 1 working day gone). Selayang Hospital Specialist Clinic only operates on Friday ( 1/2 day morning). The appointment will normally be set 2~3 weeks after.

3) On the day to meet with the Urologist, the Urologist will performs same interview, asking the reason of the making the decision for the procedure, explaining the procedure by the sketches. After that, the specialist will set the available date for the procedure for you. It will be another 2~3 months of wait depending on the availability of the Operating Theathre & you have no control over the urologist who is going to performt the procedure. ( 1 working day gone )

For my case, the process interrupted when Hospital called me out of sudden to re-schedule the procedure date forward in short notice. Post the event, I decided to go for the Private Hospital. Throughout the process with the govenment clinic & hospital, the cost was miminal only the time need to be spent. The cost, the urologist informed not to worry, hence I guess it will not be costly.

For the private hospital:

1. Went to KPJ Rawang - procedure performed by Dr. Kantha Rao (MBBS, MS - UM)

2. The cost - RM 3,000.00 ( year 2020 ), Lab test for sperm count - RM 80 , consultation with the Urologist per session RM 55 , Covid-19 swap test RM 270.00

3. The process - meet up for consultation , the same interview & explanation procedure ( 1 day ). After that, within 1 week, set the date for procedure, before procedure, compulsory covid-19 test was carried out 1 day before the procedure. On the procedure day, the procedure took around 1 hour. You will be asked to change for the patient attire & brought into the OT room via the patient bed. The specialist performed the procedure with 2 assitance, you will be awaken throughout the procedure as they will only give the anesthetic injection to the localize body part. They will shaved your pubic hair with hair trimmer & vacuum the cut hair. While doing the procedure, the urologist will update you that they have done with the left / right. After the procedure, the urologist will took the cut vas deferens duct ( with label, left & right ) for the lab test as a validation process that they cut the correct thing from your body. Post the procedure, the cut area of the testicles will be wrapped with the medical tape ( large one), it gonna be painful ( feeling like your testicles got hit by something feeling if the cut area was accidently rub). It took me around 1 week to recover ( removing the tape ), almost 3 months to feel normal back.

1 week afetr the procedure, the urologist will check if the cut heal properly & advise to use condom for any sexual intercourse. Sex without condom only advisable after the sperm count test show 0 sperm count in the semen. Recommended sperm count test to be carried out 2 months after the procedure by giving body suffifient time to flush out the remaining sperms available in the vas deferens.

2 months after the procedure, there will another meet up with urologist. & also request to carry out the sperm count test. After the sperm count test passed, the procedure is completed.

Total cost spend should be around RM 3,500.00.
