I find Windows 10 to be more stable and usable now.

That's hilarious. I was visiting my mother this past weekend and had to install some "Windows Feature Update 1903" on her Win10 laptop. The bloody download appeared stuck at 99% for more than half an hour, and then it finally finished and made me reboot twice, and then the update screen says the update failed and to try again later. Worse still, it screwed up the native resolution. Fixed the display in the end, but just decided to ignore the update. Next time I visit her, I'm wiping the hard drive and installing some easy distro like Mint or Zorin for her.

The whole ordeal only served to solidify my dislike for Windows. Everyone says, "oooh, Windows is much better now!!" Pfft, much better than what? Vista?! Of course. Even a lump of dog shit would be better than Vista. Better than dog shit still doesn't mean it's good. If someone forces me to use Windows for some proprietary app on my own computers, the only way I'll do so is in a KVM/qemu session. There's no way in hell I'm installing that garbage OS on bare metal.

As for me, I would rather install linux distro on their PC and tell them this is the latest OS. Then teach em some simpler tricks than previous crap OS way for their daily usage. I can confirm they wont revert back to the old crap OS they're used to.

LOL, I just did that for someone last week. Replaced Windows with Solus Budgie on an old Acer Celeron laptop. Default install, though I did alloctate a separate /home partition just in case need to wipe the OS and preserve his porn one day. Only change I made was to tweak Firefox a bit (enabled Cloudflare DNS over HTTPS, hardware acceleration, some battery saving tweaks, other about:config stuff) and installed a couple of basic extensions (uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes, HTTPS Everywhere, etc) mainly to protect the user from himself. No other changes. The owner seems quite happy now. Says everything is so fast it feels like he bought a new computer.

This is why I don't agree that Linux should be more popular on the desktop, because in the end we just end up getting more stupid posts on support forums.

There's a famous quote;
If you make a product any idiot can use, idiots will definitely use it. But in order to grow, you'll need to attract more idiots, which means you'll need to make your product even more idiotic.

I'm happy with the 1% desktop market share. Less idiots.
