Its strange to know that people don't talk about the good stuff about satyam inthis thread. I had simmilar feeling before i joined this company but all those have changed in few months of my stay at satyam.
They are not just an indian company but Global company.
They have offices in 55 countries with man power of 53000 As of now.
They are one of the best Pay master.
Last Year They got the No12. prefered company in ASIA and No1 IT prefered company in india.
The got the No1 company to train their Employees in the world, last year it was American Express.
They have 150 Fortune 500 clients in the world. So the employes have high chance to travelling to countries like US, Europe, Australia etc etc..
They provide the best medical coverage for their employees, none of the malaysia or MNC can come close to that, like they cover all your prenatal to delivery expenses with cash less facility.
They have 90% of the staff are Local malaysians and only 10% are from india.
They are coming out with the new campus building in cyberjaya with Cafeteria, Gymnasium,Auditorium,Amphi theater by Mar 2009. The construction is in fullswing, near the Bomba in cyberjaya.

if you ask me to compare a freshie in satyam with his future in another company.. i'd say his future in other companies would be better
yeah satyam has high pay, good benefits, world class insurance, best employer award blah blah blah blah blah
but what happens to freshies is that they are being hired to bench. imagine, in 1 year, you only worked in 2 projects only. and how involved are you? worst thing is you are being bonded for 18 months. wanna resign also cannot. taking my own experience, i have worked in 3 projects in my first job over 6 months, 20+ projects in my 2nd job in over 1.5 years. what can satyam offer?

i always hear they have projects.. ya right.. see for yourself how many people are benching in the office, how many are reading comics, how many are enjoying coffee in the break out area, how many are posting in forums, how many are chatting in msn, how many are playing the fool and not working, how many are coming late and leaving early, how many ponteng without even have to apply for leave

Here i will defer with you vkleong. A fresher in Satyam will earn defitenly more knowledge than any other company in any day. Satyam spends lots of money on their training, they don't only train on Java/dotnet/oracle but they train you some cutting edge technology like PEGA,Cognos,SAS,Lombardi,Global360,orticon blah blah blah. i am sure 95% of our malaysian IT guys doesn't even heard about these technlogies, and FYI each of these will cost you more than 20K if you learn outside. (Satyam doesn't charge 25K if you break the bond for freshers)

They have hired close to 500 in last 8 month and they have engaged 50% of them into projects, definitely all can't be in projects specially freshers unless they do justice to their potential.

Coming back to your own exp. you said you have done 20plus projects in 18 month, means each projects duration is less than one month, i would rather prefer quality projects than quantity, and would prefer a fortune 100 client project in my resume than any ABC local projects.

I would again defer with you regarding chatting MSN and surfing net in satyam because they have blocked all those stuff already.Regarding coming late and leaving early, well satyam believe in strictly 9 to 6, they don't expect people to stay office late, and from this week they have impose a new law that no one to stay in office after 7.30 PM, if its urgent due to project issue then need to take the permission from Project manager and corporate services.

where did you get your statistics?
i personally know a guy who was trained in dot net
but ended up doing java project.

tell me, honestly. really really honest.
have you ever worked in a company where you cannot open you yahoo mail or gmail?
FYI
in the satyam universe (i forgot what's it called)
the intranet application
you can look up internal vacancies
this project requires someone with 3 years dot net exp in Japan
but KVS say
i cannot apply..
no..
he said
"don't apply"

i think these positions are reserved for the indians in india.
correct me if i'm wrong.
or
you know any reasons why people are still on bench
when there is always internal vacancies?

on the training part
i agree
they give good training
SAP training cost an arm and a leg,
but satyam gives free..

ttwangsa, I got dis stats from our monthly unit meeting, here the unit heads are very much transparent and update every details of the curent and future activities.

honestly tell me why we need yahoo n gmails during office hours, if u want to comunicate mails with your friends then u can use satyam mail ID as you can send and receive mails from yahoo and gmail, right :-), about this restriction they explained us that in satyam they have offshore development center and they had agreement with the clients about data security. thats why they don't allow people to use thumb drive, webmails or any forum. if some one can't leave without facebook, friendster, webmail, chat then satyam is absolutely not the right place.

its good you enjoy working there.
some people enjoy it
some don't
i find it limiting when i need to ask something from my co-workers,
but cannot use gtalk
you do know that they keep logs of the communicator, right?
but its harder if you are on gmail through https.
its like being in malaysia
where you cannot say anything, because the government might do something.
i simply choose not to live in fear.

ttwangsa,

i find it limiting when i need to ask something from my co-workers,
but cannot use gtalk
-- you don't need gtalk to comunicate with your co-worker, satyam has internal communicator which you can use for your internal comunication with your co-worker and FYI, they don't keep the log files.

its like being in malaysia
where you cannot say anything, because the government might do something.
i simply choose not to live in fear.
-- I was going through your post in this thread, and what i understand is you got a 50% hike from your previous company while u joined satyam, you sat only one month in bench in satyam and then got into project but after couple of month in project you resigned and joined HP (not sure how much hike you got in HP). can you please tell me why this sudden jump, as far as i am concern people working in that client are able to access webmail, yahoo, gtalk, lowyat blah blah blah. and there is no question of living in fear.

I believe Satyam is treating everyone well.. it's a good company with good pay and benefits. But there's a lot of management issues that I think they need to work on.
*
vkeong, Like every MNC, i think satyam is also under going the changes in malaysia to adopt to malaysia culture and need to understand the malaysian sentimates, i am absolutely agree with you and i am sure they will sort those petty management issues ASAP, we should give them some time.

Last week my manager was telling that like other countries in (Australia, Greece, china, Japan) satyam prefer local leaders to lead the role than indian expatriots, so far they are still looking for dynamic malayisia local project managers, program managers, leads who can take satyam malaysia to next generation.

About projects.. Well no company will get projects if they don't have bench strength. according to them few projects are in pipe line and by next few months they will be executed from malaysia. End to End Service offering Offshosre concept is new to malaysia. They have worked in this way and have growth from 24000 employee to 53000 employee in just 2 years with a year to year revenue growth of 45% (visit satyam website).

One more thing: you are talking about intel, motorola, dell, accenture.. don't forget how they layoff people when they don't have projects or when US faces recession. so far in satyam's history they never layoff people in their last 20 years history.

I am not here to advocate about satyam, but when our govt openly praising satyam in WCIT and brought those big WCIT delegates only to Satyam Malaysia to show case their success story then why we are making noise.

QUOTE(ttwangsa @ Jun 3 2008, 08:45 AM)
this is my experience in satyam. all below are facts.

a. I was benched for just a month. Others I've seen being benched for six months or even more.
b. I've resigned for a while. (got 2 payslips from new company) but still being called up by satyam team to help them with the problems they encounter.
c. During my stay, I cannot claim petrol. Cannot claim toll. Cannot claim parking parking. According to the manager, I can claim if I went to a seminar, but if on site, no claim. (I know some companies let you claim, some companies view it as the site is your new base, so no claims).
d. I saw with my own eye, a co-worker being wrongly billed for 10k. He tried to talk to his manager, his manager just said, "if you have to pay, then you have to pay". Thank god somebody else helped him go to HR and finance department.
e. During my bench period, I wanted to join PEGA training (which is a different project), but I was not allowed. My manager said, that project had too many people.
f. During my bench period, I wanted to apply for an internal vacancy in Japan and UK. But my reporting manger said, "don't", even though I fit the requirements.
g. When I was assigned to a project, I was using Struts. Struts is a 2002 technology.
h. When I was assigned to a project, they were using cvs where everybody was sharing the same username and password.
i. When I was assigned to a project, they commited to the cvs whenever they please, resulting in nobody knew where the current code was.
j. After I resigned, my project manager resigned.
k. My pay from previous salary was +50%
l. Satyam's medical benefit. I've never ever been offer any medical benefit or even seen any other company offer that kind of benefit. DENTAL USD 500 per person per year. MATERNITY USD 10k per whole working duration. MEDICAL cover GP+Specialist. I've looked around. For these same benefits, you'd have to pay USD 4k per person per year.
m. I resigned on 28th March. My salary was on hold for one month. I got it on 30th April.
m. Satyam has basic pay and variable pay (sort of like performance bonus). I have a friend who didn't get an increment on basic pay, but got an increment on variable pay.
n. On my last week there. I heard that there was this Malay girl who was just back from a Singapore project. She was in the process of going to a New Zealand project.
o. The SAP people are also being sent to middle east.
p. Someone from the same batch as me was being sent to India, .NET programmer.
q. The day I joined satyam. There were 2 other J2EE programmers. The next, I saw my reporting manager and asked to be placed in Singapore if there is a vacancy. After being benched for a while, I found out one of them is doing PEGA training. The other has been sent to Singapore.
r. Satyam pays for your petrol. up to RM 300. Its tax free coz they require receipt. Its like paying you to go to work.
s. I've heard that some people who got to work to singapore got a 1:1 convesion. If they are earning RM 4,000 here, they will be earning SD 4,000 in singapore. Some people got 0.9, some got 0.8 conversion. It varies. On countries like India or Indonesia, I think its USD conversion.
t. Satyam provides a LOT of training. SAP traning costs A LOT. try to absorb all the training you can get.
u. no access to web based mail.

These are just facts. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Thank you.
*
ttwangsa, Whatz the moral of your story? You got a pay hike of 50+ plus when u joined satyam but you have resigned with in 3 months just because you are at client place and not eligible for travel allowance(RM300). Appreciate if you can share your thought about your dream company.
