QUOTE(Royals @ May 31 2008, 01:24 PM)
Its strange to know that people don't talk about the good stuff about satyam inthis thread. I had simmilar feeling before i joined this company but all those have changed in few months of my stay at satyam.
They are not just an indian company but Global company.
They have offices in 55 countries with man power of 53000 As of now.
They are one of the best Pay master.
Last Year They got the No12. prefered company in ASIA and No1 IT prefered company in india.
The got the No1 company to train their Employees in the world, last year it was American Express.
They have 150 Fortune 500 clients in the world. So the employes have high chance to travelling to countries like US, Europe, Australia etc etc..
They provide the best medical coverage for their employees, none of the malaysia or MNC can come close to that, like they cover all your prenatal to delivery expenses with cash less facility.
They have 90% of the staff are Local malaysians and only 10% are from india.
They are coming out with the new campus building in cyberjaya with Cafeteria, Gymnasium,Auditorium,Amphi theater by Mar 2009. The construction is in fullswing, near the Bomba in cyberjaya.

yes
there are good things
there are also bad thing

true
not only indian company
the have offices in india, australia, usa, uk, singapore...

yes employess have a high chance to travel to US, Europe, UK, Singapore, New Zealand

yes,
maternity benefit is as good as a government staff (except you get to choose a private hospital)

a lot of plus points
i believe in general satyam is a good place to work
but sometimes some people got backstabbed.

i think that happens everywhere
just that satyam is big
so more noise

i was with satyam
now i'm with hp
you should see all the bad stuff at hp thread
but i'm ok with hp

as for the satyam bosses,
i think kvs is not so good..
he treated me ok,
but not one of my friends

one of my friends quit,
and he told him
"its your mistake, one [name] go, one [name] come"

hehe.
being on bench sucks.
i was on bench for 1 month.

i think getting paid for doing nothing is good.
but.
not doing anything dulls the blade (your biggest asset, the human mind)

somehow i think satyam is somewhat like government
do almost nothing
get paid
get very good medical package

again
pros and cons
i think on bench people can go for training.

i dunno la
some project, people work from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
some people bored to death from 9.a.m to 6 p.m
something is wrong somewhere.

any java programmer with 3 years exp from satyam want to join hp?
my project manager wants me to get more resources.

bro
just a word of caution
last day should be on the 15th
if like me
last day was march 28
march 30, no pay
i got my salary for march on april 30th
so
they hold your salary
if you resign on 15th, i think the hold it for two weeks
just my opinion.
but dunno
if unlucky
they hold it for one and a half month.

i complained to government
they say it would take 2 months to resolve
hell.

i think its standard for MNC to hold your salary.
but its the standard because we let it be the standard.
erm.

royals
where did you get your statistics?
i personally know a guy who was trained in dot net
but ended up doing java project.

tell me, honestly. really really honest.
have you ever worked in a company where you cannot open you yahoo mail or gmail?

FYI
in the satyam universe (i forgot what's it called)
the intranet application
you can look up internal vacancies
this project requires someone with 3 years dot net exp in Japan
but KVS say
i cannot apply..
no..
he said
"don't apply"

i think these positions are reserved for the indians in india.
correct me if i'm wrong.
or
you know any reasons why people are still on bench
when there is always internal vacancies?

on the training part
i agree
they give good training
SAP training cost an arm and a leg,
but satyam gives free..

its good you enjoy working there.
some people enjoy it
some don't
i find it limiting when i need to ask something from my co-workers,
but cannot use gtalk
you do know that they keep logs of the communicator, right?
but its harder if you are on gmail through https.
its like being in malaysia
where you cannot say anything, because the government might do something.
i simply choose not to live in fear.

i don't know
maybe its just not for me
i'm glad satyam is treating you well.
i really am.
most of the satyam people i've met, have negative feelings.
what matters is you enjoy your work environment.
no hard feelings.
btw. i did not want to resign.
i wanted to change project
but the say cannot
i've begged
and pleaded.
i asked if they could at least pay for the parking (costing me rm 20+ per day)
but kvs say cannot
cannot claim toll
cannot claim petrol

so i resigned
not financialy viable for me.

getting the same as previous company after minus all the expenses.

again
i believe some people are treated better
some are not
its not fair
and if you've read "who moved my cheese"
instead of cursing the situation
adapt to change.
so i changed company.
happier.
just be ready when change happens.

Added on May 31, 2008, 8:30 pmat the end of the day,
if the company does not make you happy
then leave.
stop whining.
and if you are happy, you are lucky.
all the best.
i mean no disrespect.

this is my experience in satyam. all below are facts.

a. I was benched for just a month. Others I've seen being benched for six months or even more.
b. I've resigned for a while. (got 2 payslips from new company) but still being called up by satyam team to help them with the problems they encounter.
c. During my stay, I cannot claim petrol. Cannot claim toll. Cannot claim parking parking. According to the manager, I can claim if I went to a seminar, but if on site, no claim. (I know some companies let you claim, some companies view it as the site is your new base, so no claims).
d. I saw with my own eye, a co-worker being wrongly billed for 10k. He tried to talk to his manager, his manager just said, "if you have to pay, then you have to pay". Thank god somebody else helped him go to HR and finance department.
e. During my bench period, I wanted to join PEGA training (which is a different project), but I was not allowed. My manager said, that project had too many people.
f. During my bench period, I wanted to apply for an internal vacancy in Japan and UK. But my reporting manger said, "don't", even though I fit the requirements.
g. When I was assigned to a project, I was using Struts. Struts is a 2002 technology.
h. When I was assigned to a project, they were using cvs where everybody was sharing the same username and password.
i. When I was assigned to a project, they commited to the cvs whenever they please, resulting in nobody knew where the current code was.
j. After I resigned, my project manager resigned.
k. My pay from previous salary was +50%
l. Satyam's medical benefit. I've never ever been offer any medical benefit or even seen any other company offer that kind of benefit. DENTAL USD 500 per person per year. MATERNITY USD 10k per whole working duration. MEDICAL cover GP+Specialist. I've looked around. For these same benefits, you'd have to pay USD 4k per person per year.
m. I resigned on 28th March. My salary was on hold for one month. I got it on 30th April.
m. Satyam has basic pay and variable pay (sort of like performance bonus). I have a friend who didn't get an increment on basic pay, but got an increment on variable pay.
n. On my last week there. I heard that there was this Malay girl who was just back from a Singapore project. She was in the process of going to a New Zealand project.
o. The SAP people are also being sent to middle east.
p. Someone from the same batch as me was being sent to India, .NET programmer.
q. The day I joined satyam. There were 2 other J2EE programmers. The next, I saw my reporting manager and asked to be placed in Singapore if there is a vacancy. After being benched for a while, I found out one of them is doing PEGA training. The other has been sent to Singapore.
r. Satyam pays for your petrol. up to RM 300. Its tax free coz they require receipt. Its like paying you to go to work.
s. I've heard that some people who got to work to singapore got a 1:1 convesion. If they are earning RM 4,000 here, they will be earning SD 4,000 in singapore. Some people got 0.9, some got 0.8 conversion. It varies. On countries like India or Indonesia, I think its USD conversion.
t. Satyam provides a LOT of training. SAP traning costs A LOT. try to absorb all the training you can get.
u. no access to web based mail.

These are just facts. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Thank you.

in my exprience.

what program did they write?
it depends on the project.
from web application to swing applications.
its a broad range.

but they will give you training.

satyam won't ask you to do something you cannot do.

if they interview you, they will find out what you are capable of.
they will assign you to projects, based on your skill set.

maintenance, yes, sometimes you maintain an old system.
sometimes you develop a new system.

program to control wat?
sometimes you create a simple web app for data entry. sometimes its a big webapp with webservices, ajax. sometimes its just a vb6 exe application.

program for web page like java script or php?
sometimes you have to write web based application. sometimes unix application. depends on your skill. if you have zero exp in unix, nobody expects you to write unix apps.

IT consultant: did they give advice to other company?
just a fancy name for a senior programmer. still code.

its a software house. like all other software house. core business is codes. but they provide a lot of training.

TTWANGSA,
It is unacceptable and ridiculous that your boss (x-boss) doesnt approve your claim! Gila meh...RM20+petrol+toll everyday = big sum..you shouldnt bear this cost. What is his excuse/explanation?

Added on June 4, 2008, 11:05 am

when they said it is for security reasons and things like that, yet, they r ppl who still have full access to any websites they want...it is contradicting and not making sense. I never see this issue in other consultancy firms. My frens in Accenture, IBM, ISS, EY, KPMG all laugh at me when I told them I am not allowed to check my gmail and msn messenger and most important thing of all, I got no laptop! I am so embarrased. When everyone is moving forward, I am moving backward..'zaman batu'..still using desktop...oh my god!
*
i think some companies have that policy
if you are on site, then that site becomes you new base
so
going to the site, you cannot claim.

some company, you can claim if you go to site.

in satyam,
if you go for seminar and training, you can claim
but if your site is klcc,
then you have to go there everyday
and bear the cost.

i should have asked this
during the interview.
i am partly to be blamed for this.

after i resigned,
every company i went to for an interview,
i will ask the claim to site question

some just smile and say "of course can"
some say cannot.

it depends on company policy.

when i was in satyam

my old reporting manager said "going to client" cannot claim
could have said "really? chowsc's gf can claim... How come i cannot? is it because i'm a guy?"
ah well
no use crying over spilled milk.

i see..
reading your post again,
i figured out
that "just got 50sen" is "recently got 50sen"
and not "got the amount of 50sen"
"just" refers to time,
not amount.
haha ha
my mistake.
