My old 2011 MBA 13" died earlier this year and I've since bought a new MBPR 2015. Now I wish to salvage it due to the potential of needing 2nd machine.

As far as I researched, 3 beeps indicating bad RAM. But since MBA RAM is soldered on, I believe there's no way it can be easily fixed right?

So maybe two options:

1. Send for repair at mac specialist, maybe solder new RAM or even upgrade it (it was 4GB).
2. Replace logic board entirely that salvaged from other used machine.

Anyone can shed some light on what's the best option, and where is a good place to send to? I based in KL.

Thanks in advance!

We do not recommend repairing this particular model that affected with memory fault. I wouldn't say it's a common fault, but there are few cases we received so far.

If you go for:
1. Ensure they provide you long enough warranty to justify what you paid for the repair. As we aware, the issue are likely come back, no matter what kind of repair they do.

2. This is a gamble. There are chances of the replacement are being repaired from the same issue. If you are sure they are fresh from another Mac, maybe one with broken screen, chances might be lower. Again, justify the price with warranty period.

Thanks for your reply! I don't mind the 2nd option as long as it works, and below RM1K. It's with me since 2011 so a good 6 years old. Well beyond the extended warranty which I purchased Any recommendation that I can at least try, maybe you could provide me some contacts.
