Hi guys. I had a situation whereby my credit card was rejected because of over limit. However my current outstanding balance is still far away from the credit limit. Anyway, here is the summary of my situation:

-Total credit card limit: RM5000
-Outstanding balance for Visa: RM200
-Outstanding balance for AMEX: RM800
-Installment using AMEX: 1)RM100x12months(9 months left) 2)RM100x24months(22 months left)
-Recent rejected attempt to purchase: Installment of RM110x24months.

Anybody can help me why does this happen? Do I have to increase my credit card limit first to make the purchase?

you should take account of the remaining installment whereby it reserved the available CL.

i roughly calculated 200+800+900+2200= 4100 used. the purchase attempt of 2640 would definitely fail.

to increase, either fill up form to get permanent increase (subject to approval), or CDM/IBG extra money into the card (defeating the purpose of doing installment at the first place). temporary CL increase may not work as this is not emergency need, but you can try.

I see.. So the remaining installment should be accounted into the credit limit as well? All this while I thought only the monthly payment should be taken into account when considering the credit limit. Thank you for your explanation thumbup.gif .
Well then I guess the only solution is to increase my credit limit, I hope it will get approved. By the way, what is the allowable total credit limit for these credit cards?
