I've had credit cards from Hong Leong and Public Bank where I requested for waiver before and they granted it. I think the bank looks at your overall spending amount and payment history and has the discretion to grant a waiver of the annual fees.
But what I know some of the certain credit card can request waiver, but some type of credit card is no tolerance...
Unless a year you swipe almost can buy mercedes car..

If you want more peace of mind then cut up and destroy the Mastercard

Then no chance of it being used.

Bad idea, next time when got fraud case (fraudster don't need your physical card) what you gonna say?
Nowadays fraudster can use online to purchase even through you cut up your mastercard.
Unless you use fire and burn it your mastercard into very tiny pieces, then no comment to say..

I only activated amex, seems fine
Then as usual can get CB for amex, right?
If like that, I do your same method activate amex only.. While another mastercard throw to drawer or put in freezer.
Without activate the card, I guess fraudster can't purchase anything through online...
