the page is from an installed ahem app which u may hv paid for.

likely a result of broken firmware, lost the booting, UI.

u can try the pin reset method, see if it recovers the original firmware.

i have not used a rockchip or allwinner chipset box, can't comment further.

X96 max is an Amlogic s905x2 while H96max is a rockchip.

If not mistaken.

Be careful when buying TV boxes above 2GB, correct me if I'm wrong most chipsets out in the market can only optimally support up to 2GB addressing. So if you're buying higher RAM it's just a gimmick, the box cannot utilize the extra RAM properly or will just go to waste.

This is true particularly with Allwinner H6 boxes.

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/10174-since...sd-card/page/5/

Same can be similarly said with Amlogic series of processors.

That's why you see why big companies such as TM are only sourcing 2GB variant boxes instead of 4GB which just costs a little more so why not future proof their products?

Also, did u buy with the astro go app pre-installed or have to download urself?

tx3mini/max works fine with astrogo but...
.. the chipset is AML s905w, a low end one, >2 years old, not many boxes using it anymore.
.. it comes in 2+16 as well as 2+8gb - a no. of users of 2+8gb (very cheap) has complained it gets sluggish often.
.. the small higher price u pay is not just for the chipset or storage but all hardware, features and overall smoothness.
.. i find the wifi module of tx3mini quite weak.... so, unless u use ethernet or is close to router, it is not the best choice although it is dirt cheap.
.. while u may want to go as cheap as u can, keep in mind saving rm30, rm50 may give u headaches after a few weeks or months.
.. more so when u want to do more with the box.

tx5max uses a better AML chipset s905x2 and has gigabit port, ac wifi... however, this model is no longer being sold.
tx3 s905x3 is the latest model with newer AML s905x3.
can expect another tx3 model to come soon since AML s905x4 is now available.

the good news is tx3 (mini, max, s905x3) come with a simple root switch; it is easy to run astrogo.
u dun need any modified version... just get the current official apk to sideload it.
preinstalled is meaningless becos new versions come out every month or 2.. u need to update.

Got u on all points except the last part. Never had a tv box before.
- When u say “a simple root switch”, is it a physical switch or has to be done inside the user interface? Not sure what the difference between rooted and unrooted too.
- modified version of astro go u mean?
- what’s sideload?

Sorry, noob here. Lol

the switch where u find the option to click open or close with the mouse. biggrin.gif

if u read more, u will find some users are using modified versions becos the box cannot run the official version(s).

sideload means u have the apk file or app in yr usb drive, u stick into the usb port and install with a file browser or file manager app.

direct load is when u install using google playstore of the device.

Wrong.. TM is just being a cheapskate company. That's why.. Think about it, since when they gave a decent router? Despite all the complaints people have given about the TM provided routers such as the C1200... Still they'll just replace with a similarly performing or shit router. TM offers 800Mbps plan and yet the provided router can only go up till 3xxMbps over Wi-Fi.. Anyways, it's the same thing with their STB.. Look at theirs, look at Astro's and you tell me which is the obvious better box? With significantly better HD Audio and UHD support.

Regarding higher RAM usage.. I can attest to higher than 2GB usage in certain 4GB RAM equipped boxes. Allwinner, RK, etc.. I'm not a fan of those.. Since past few years AMLogic SoCs on the other hand, just need manufacturers or custom ROM chefs to build proper firmwares and kernels to tap into the hardware.

Just saw a review, a regular TVbox reviewer said 2G is enough. He isn't too far off, as Firetv cube = 2GB, Shield = 3GB, Minix neo U9 = 2GB, Ugoos Am6 = 2GB ....

But low end boxes are cheap anyway, 4GB/64GB with ddr4 memory is my pick. Value for money. I just read on freaktab, someone used TX3 s905x3 but he could not use CoreElec to play Netflix in 1080p, but a Beelink mini2 S905x3 ( same processor as Tx3 model ) could handle the 1080p Netflix movies. The price of additional memory and storage isn't much for a low end box.

From what I understand is that most of the cheap TV boxes out there running Android have DRAMs which are only limited to 32-bit wide bus.Despite boasting that their CPUs are 64-bit capable, their DRAM memory only restricts them to 32-bit addressing because their memory circuits are only that wide.

Moreover, most Android apps out there are only 32-bit based so they will not take advantage of utilizing more than 2GB of RAM.As described by this Wiki article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_GB_limit

I've tried maximizing my 4GB TV box memory utilization and despite opening as many apps as possible, it never reaches anywhere near 4GB but only around 2GB.
Never even close to 75%.

Think of it, why does Nvidia's latest Shield TV 2019 and Shield TV Pro 2019 don't even have more than 3GB of RAM for its Pro variant? They could have conquered the market and place like 8GB of RAM or more into their boxes. Why the regular Shield only has 2GB of RAM and the Pro have 3GB?

So these China cheap TV boxes with 4GB are just pushing some marketing gimmick to consumers which we'll never get to utilize put need to pay more so that they can push DRAM chips out into the market due to oversupply.
