QUOTE(azriel @ Jan 26 2018, 02:11 PM) Royal Thai Army new VT-4 MBT. I wonder how well it performs. Seems to be the same tank as the one that competed in the tank biathlon. |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Feb 1 2018, 12:27 AM) I think still too early for a condensed report in terms of equipment used and strategic objectives captured.Actually the Turks has been kind of vague what their objective is. Buffer zone or complete capture of the city? This post has been edited by Skidd Chung: Feb 1 2018, 08:51 AM |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Feb 1 2018, 05:18 PM) Turkey in a nutshell: Most people seem to be saying "stop please, unless they are ISIS". Seems Russia plain doesn't want to be involved, similar to when SyAAF was barrel-bombing and gassing civvies - they just made it clear that the area was not their ops zone and GTFO'd. Kurds are more powerful now than they have ever been in Syria, they won't give it up without a fight. Which is the main reason Turkey is itching for a fight and they have enough FSA mercs to be their ground troops supported by their specialists, armor and air superiority. Turks won't be happy as long as there is a recognised Kurdish State near their border. If they don't put a stop to it, their NATO allies might decide to give it a statehood. This was precipitated by the US declared intention to form a 'border' force, and when borders = statehood. Question: Should the Kurds should just concentrate in Northern Iraq rather than try to carve something out of the no-mans-land of Syria? Russians know this 'intent' will agitate the Turks so they probably tried to get the Kurds to accept Assads rule but with autonomy. They refused and Russia basically gave Turks the green light. Kurds thought their NATO allies will step in to stop the Turks, unfortunately for them, Turkey is an important strategic ally that must be respected less they lean towards Russia's influence. Which is why you read most NATO countries do not object but just raise alarm out of courtesy. Kurds in Afrin is in a bad spot and will have to choose either to be completely taken over by FSA/Turks who will probably eradicate them or give up their federal idea and choose autonomy under Assad shielding them from Turkey with Russian guarantees. While Turkey, a NATO state is attacking them and their US ally not supporting them militarily, Assad is allowing Kurdish forces to be reinforced by their counterparts from Manbij through SAA control borders, allowing theirs hospitals to treat their fighters and condemning Turkey's actions as an invasion and vowing to shoot Turkeys planes down. Most of this is just posturing but Assad needs to show he is the 'good' guy in this situation. This post has been edited by Skidd Chung: Feb 2 2018, 08:40 AM |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Apr 15 2018, 01:22 AM) Sos: CNN All were strictly long range missiles launched either from the air or ships. The Pentagon said 105 missiles were launched in the strikes against Syria. They included 30 Tomahawk missiles fired from the USS Monterey and seven from the USS Laboon in the Red Sea. Another 23 Tomahawk missiles were launched from the USS Higgins in the North Arabian Gulf, it said. A submarine, USS John Warner, fired six Tomahawk missiles from the eastern Mediterranean and a French frigate in the same area fired another three missiles, the Pentagon said. The air assault involved two US B-1 Lancer bombers, which fired 19 joint air to surface standoff missiles. The British flew a combination of Tornado and Typhoon jets, firing eight Storm Shadow missiles, while French Rafale and Mirage fighter jets launched nine SCALP missiles, the Pentagon said. Somehow I feel the US gave the Syrians and Russians fair warning time before the strikes. 2-3 days I think since Syrian Airforce moved their forces to Russian bases for better protection. Also this time strikes were concentrated on 3 targets, the alledge labs producing chemical weapons and a Hezbollah base. No airbase were hit. Previous strike was concentrated on one single airbase. So is it wayang only or This post has been edited by Skidd Chung: Apr 15 2018, 08:22 AM |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ May 25 2018, 07:57 AM) Plus, isn't the usual response to an ambush is to counter-attack and charge the ambush itself? Most (competent) commanders would position secondary ambush teams or have already planted more mines/IEDs further down the road from the killzone just in case the target tries to escape. So by running away instead of charging the ambush, you're liable to get into more trouble. |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Jun 24 2018, 07:24 PM) Saudi coalition progressing but getting mauled. Coalition now pushing into Hodeidah province but facing fierce resistance as this is one of the port cities that Houthi relies on. So far, Houthis do not have the initiative, mostly defending their Southern holdings. In the north, they still make some raids into Jizan province, but these are just hit and run against Saudi border guards. It does not really affect the war in Yemen. |
