AMX-13s are in dire need for replacement. Someone in Pindad said that the project for upgunning AMX-13 with 105mm turret has been stopped after a few examples are made. Because the cost for each upgunned AMX-13 is similar to make a new Kaplan medium tank at nearly USD 4 million.

Medium tanks may have near zero relevance in modern MBT firefights...but can tip the balance in mechanized infantry firefights.

TNI-AD will soon have twelve mechanized infantry battallions organized into four mechanized brigades with Anoa, Marder and various M113 variants, so these medium tanks should still be relevant.

If your mechanized infantry is fighting another mechanized infantry unit, you're not deploying them correctly. Mechanized units should (theoretically) rely on speed, penetration and mobility to exploit holes in the enemy defence line or outflanking the enemy. They are the wolves, they should be hunting rabbits, not fighting another wolfpack.

In short, if you are mechanized infantry unit and you have to shoot your way through, you're doing it wrong. laugh.gif
*
If a mechanized unit manages to penetrate the front line, so how to counterattack and plug the hole?

Simple, just send a mechanized unit to intercept because they also have the speed to do that.....

If you don't have a mechanized unit as reserve to counterattack any penetration, you're doing it wrong laugh.gif

Serious question though, why does TNI have such a rojak equipment list and wouldn't that screw up logistics big time?
*
BT-3F is a replacement for BTR-50. It actually helps to simplify logistics because based on the BMP-3F chassis, which is also used for marine corps.

But, Kemenhan does seem to purchase armaments on opportunity-basis, like the Nakhoda Ragam class, Leopard 2, M109, M113 and others. When Su-35 finally arrive (don't know when), it means that TNI-AU will have 5 variants of Flankers. Because they are purchased on small increments on a long period of time.

Although economy is expanding, Jokowi quadrupled the infrastructure budget compared to previous administration to about $35 billion annually. The education budget is also at equal amount. So, the defense budget will decline slightly next year. So, we can expect this kind of procurement method to continue. The defense budget to GDP ratio is still at 0.8 percent and declining, which is the lowest in the region.

So, it is a concern...

Indonesia Factor May Postpone KF-X Project

user posted image

Indonesia has failed to pay its annual share of expenses for a joint project with South Korea to develop high-tech fighter jets, an opposition lawmaker claimed Wednesday.

The claim prompted concerns the project, dubbed KF-X, could be suspended.

Rep. Kim Jong-dae of the Justice Party, a member of the National Assembly Defense Committee, said Indonesia's state-run defense firm PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), a participant in the project, has yet to pay this year's remaining allotted 138.9 billion won ($124.5 million) to Seoul as of the end of October, based on a document from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

user posted image

"If Indonesia does not pay in time, the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has to shoulder the burden of 40 percent of the development costs," Kim said. "Coupled with the current issue of the company being financially strapped, the KF-X project could easily be put in danger."

KAI is the nation's sole aircraft manufacturer that signed the KF-X contract with DAPA.

user posted image

Seoul launched the KF-X project in 2015 to build its own 4.5-generation fighters to replace the Air Force's aging fleet of F-4s and F-5s by 2026.

PTDI signed an agreement with KAI in January 2016 to foot 20 percent of the cost in the development of the program, while KAI pays 20 percent and the South Korean government pays the remaining 60 percent of the 7.5 trillion won for the program.

Due to the form of agreement, the KAI faces a burden when payments from PTDI are delayed, Kim said.

KAI is reportedly in a liquidity crunch amid corruption allegations against its former management. According to a government audit, corporate bonds worth 600 billion won and 290 billion won in corporate paper are due by the end of this year. An internal report said KAI is 630 billion won short for its projected spending this year because of the shortage of cash and required payments on loans.

"The right timing of financing is critical in an R&D project that requires state-of-the-art technology. With no special measures for the delay in payment, the KF-X project could be suspended," the lawmaker said, calling for government action.

user posted image

Starting April 2016, Indonesia agreed to pay 1 percent of the program costs annually, with its contribution to rise above 2 percent from 2017 onwards. Overall, the Southeast Asian country is supposed to pay 1.6 trillion won ($1.33 billion) into the KF-X program.

In 2017, the Indonesian government should pay 184 billion won but it only paid 45.2 billion won out of 92 billion won due in the first half of the year.

Kim accused DAPA of having downplayed concerns over the delayed payment.

He pointed out that the Indonesian government had officially disclosed its difficulty in paying 138.9 billion won in late September after it failed to include the money in its budget finalized in August.

But DAPA denied this, saying it was in close coordination with the Indonesian government for the payment due by October.

DAPA said the issue will be on the agenda for a summit between leaders of South Korea and Indonesia. President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to start an eight-day official trip to Southeast Asia, Nov. 8.

MERDEKA

It's not intended to mask full facts and create a bias. Many former OPM members surrendered and get amnesty.

The government never says that OPM is completely eradicated, but it is a fact that many have surrendered.

So, what to do? Not reporting it completely?

You seem to trust OPM's propaganda more.

It's a fact that many of their arguments are baseless. But, it is a fact that Papua is better and safer than PNG. Much of PNG is lawless and crime is rampant.

Don't trust me...read travel blogs of foreigners visiting PNG and West Papua....big differences

Hmmm, actually berapa banyak PT-91M yang kita ada weii? UN Register of Conventional Arms (UNROCA) stated based on Poland's report on PT-91 exported to Malaysia stating:

2007 - Poland send 48 MBTs as per previous procurement. This is the numbers of the active PT-91M MBT in Malaysia.

2008 - Poland submitted report of additional 21 PT-91Ms to Malaysia.

2009 - Poland submitted report of additional 18 PT-91Ms to Malaysia.

2010 - Poland submitted report of additional 3 PT-91Ms to Malaysia.

Now, let's say kita bersangka baik, Poland misreported the actual MBTs exported to Malaysia and basically the report ACTUALLY represented the previous 48 MBTs MAF already have in its inventory.

Or, to play devil's advocate here  devil.gif  devil.gif  devil.gif , ada additional 42 PT-91Ms added to the current 48 Pendekar MBTs .... Ghost Regiment kewww????

Indonesia is now a passive country. During its weaker times after the 1998 economic crisis, it struggles in thwarting numerous territorial intrusions from neighbors.
This rearmament is simply to deter future intrusions. Indonesia is far from being militaristic, the current military budget against GDP is declining to under 0.9 percent, far below neighbors.

But, because the GDP has reached $1,050 billion, so there's excess money to buy new armaments each year. For 2018, the government allocate $60 billion for infrastructure and education, while defense budget drop slightly compared to 2017, to only $7.75 billion

I think this is negligence. M113 isn't a real amphibious platform. Should use the new Arisgator version of M113 instead for civilian joyride. Much better buoyancy
